Contents

[edit] Volume One

Chloe Sullivan, editor of the Smallville Torch, has a theory that the seemingly inexplicable and allegedly unrelated events occurring in Smallville are the result of the meteor rocks deposited during the 1989 meteor shower.

[edit] Chronicle One

Earl Jenkins takes Gabe Sullivan hostage at the Smallville Fertilizer Plant c. 2001
Earl Jenkins claimed to have contracted an illness while working at LuthorCorp's Smallville Fertilizer Plant Number Three. In 2001, he took a group hostage at the plant and demanded access to the mysterious Level Three. At the end of the crisis, Earl was sent to Metropolis General where he died.

Chloe interviews Belinda Jenkins, the widow of Earl Jenkins. Her husband's condition came on him suddenly. A green dust they were spraying on crops on Level Three infected him. Their son Johnny is a handful, more than your average toddler. He's not ill, but doctors can't explain how he is different. Earl thought that if he could get back to Level Three, he could find the answers to his problem, but when Lex took him down there, it was all cleared out. Belinda reports that Dr. Arthur Walsh might have believed Earl's story. He called after Earl died, expressing remorse as if he was somehow responsible. As evidence that her husband's story is true, Belinda shows Chloe his work boots. The soles are stained with green dust.

[edit] Chronicle Two

Dr. Steven Hamilton

Chloe journeys to Edge City to interview Dr. Arthur Walsh. He used to be a professor of genetics at Metropolis University, but now teaches high school biology. He initially expresses reluctance to talk about Earl Jenkins, but he does invite Chloe into his office. He tries to hide some envelopes with a strange green logo. When Chloe mentions meteor rocks, Dr. Walsh mumbles something about Dr. Steven Hamilton's results being replicated outside of the lab, and someone named Donovan. Chloe tries to encourage him to talk by mentioning all the people who have been killed and hurt by the meteor rocks. When the bell rings, he agrees to meet with Chloe again next week, and they can exchange notes.

[edit] Chronicle Three

Chloe investigates.

Chloe goes to NuCorp, a high tech energy firm, to interview Dr. Donovan Jamison. Donovan worked with Drs. Walsh and Hamilton at Metropolis University in 1990. At first he thinks that Chloe is there to interview him about nuclear energy. He says that his research at Met U was about developing isotopes as alternatives to plutonium; it didn't have anything to do with meteor rocks. He says some insulting things about Dr. Walsh. Chloe accuses him of being responsible for certain deaths and Donovan threatens her. Before she leaves, she notices an envelope with the same strange green logo she saw in Walsh's office.

[edit] Chronicle Four

Belinda Jenkins, the widow of Earl Jenkins.

Chloe returns to Edge City with a digital copy of her Wall of Weird for Dr. Walsh, but she finds his classes canceled and his office empty. Before she leaves, a courier arrives to deliver something for Dr. Walsh. Chloe accepts the delivery and signs for an envelope. It has the same strange green logo and it is stuffed with cash and a note encouraging him to avoid further contact with Chloe. His principal was baffled by his disappearance and his house was empty. Chloe vows to continue investigating, but in the meantime she decides to give the money to Belinda Jenkins. While she is on the porch, she hears a loud crash inside, and Belinda hollers at Johnny to be careful about the furniture.

[edit] Volume Two

Volume Two in the form of original comics and video, focused on Chloe uncovering the truth behind the death of Sarah Strossberg, a journalism student at Met U. Chloe discovered that Donovan Jamison has been experimenting on the bodies of metahumans, including Sean Kelvin, Greg Arkin, and Tina Greer.

[edit] Chronicle One

Chloe checks her email.

Opening up with the ending scene of Chronicle (from Smallville #7), Chloe receives an email from Dr. Walsh the former genetics professor she interviewed at Edge City High in Video Two. She is apprehensive about opening it, but Chloe never turns away from a mystery. The email contains a video message from Dr. Walsh. He was working in a lab and afraid for his own life. He asked Chloe to find his family. Chloe tries to trace the email but it was bounced off so many servers that it is untraceable. Further searches for Dr. Walsh and his family turned up no result at all. Someone has tried to delete them completely.

[edit] Chronicle Two

Chloe finds Mrs. Walsh and goes to her house. She shows her and her ten-year-old son Max the video she received. It contains a message just for them. He tells them that whatever they heard about his disappearance was a lie, and Chloe can tell them what really happened. He tells them that he loves them, and he tells his son to "take his lucky lure and go catch that big monster fish they never managed to catch together." After the video, Max says they never went fishing together. Chloe finds the tackle box and Max points out the lucky lure. Inside, Chloe finds a computer chip and when she plugs it in to her handheld computer, she receives a coded message: GHOST NECK SS 942565362509.

[edit] Chronicle Three

Pete and Chloe at the Torch.
Back at the Torch, Chloe and Pete are trying to crack the code. Pete gets a call from his mother who explains that Ghost Neck is what the teens used to call the cemetery because they used to go there to neck with the ghosts. At Longneck Cemetery, Chloe finds Earl Jenkins' tombstone. She checks the coded message again and discovers that the numbers in the message almost match the GPS coordinates of the grave site. She walks across the cemetery and finds the grave of Sarah Strossberg matches the coordinates exactly. SS stands for Sarah Strossberg. Back at the Torch office, Chloe discovers that Sarah was a Smallville resident who went to Met U and wrote a few articles about the meteor rocks before she disappeared. Her body was found alongside the highway in unincorporated Lowell County.

[edit] Chronicle Four

Dr. Donovan Jamison, CEO of NuCorp (see Video Three above), has been indicted on charges of corporate treason. His secretary Rebecca Jones is suspected of fabricating the charges, but Jamison believes that someone else put her up to it. The board asked him to resign from NuCorp, and Jamison pled guilty to lesser charges. He lost his pension and hasn't been seen since. Next, Chloe goes to see Rebecca Jones. She's been promoted to vice president of operations at NuCorp in Dr. Jamison's absence. Her door is adorned with the mysterious green logo seen in Video One. Ms. Jones is not eager to speak with her, but Chloe has discovered that Ms. Jones was awarded the Sarah Strossberg scholarship for excellence in journalism at Metropolis University at about the same time she was working for Donovon Jamison. Ms. Jones states that Jamison told her that he admired Sarah's articles. They became friends when he was teaching at Metropolis University. Chloe leaves, stating that she hopes that NuCorp adopts less life-threatening research protocols.

[edit] Chronicle Five

Chloe visits retired Sheriff Mark "Wink" Waid, the investigating officer who caught the Strossberg case. He has a theory that all the weird stuff he saw as sheriff was the result of people watching too much television and not spending enough time enjoying the great outdoors, but he does remember finding Sarah's body on Old Loeb Bridge Road. He says they didn't investigate the case as foul play because the coroner's report said the cause of death was seizures. She had no history of epilepsy and the autopsy revealed nothing. Sheriff Waid doesn't want to talk about it anymore until Chloe offers him a fresh pouch of tobacco for his pipe. Then he remembers that she had strange red algae all over her clothes and under her nails. The only spot with a red algae bloom that season was a little crater pond deep in Burnham Woods. Chloe asks him to give her a map so she can find this pond.

[edit] Chronicle Six

Chloe and Pete in the woods.

Pete and Chloe hike through Burnham Woods in search of Sheriff Waid's crater pond. They are being followed. After more than an hour, Pete gets bored and heads off on his own. Chloe catches up with him at the pond but after just a few minutes, he disappears again. Suddenly, someone grabs Chloe, throws her to the ground and takes her camera.

[edit] "Exploit"

Greg Arkin became a swarm of bugs when he was squished.
Dr. Donovan Jamison from NuCorp (see Video Three above) has taken Pete's and Chloe's cameras and escorted them underground to a secret laboratory. He explains that he is not the person that was following them. He, Dr. Hamilton, and Dr. Arthur Walsh chose this location for their lab because it contained the largest meteor anywhere, but they have mined the entire thing now. He doesn't say who paid to have it built.
Tina Greer
He further explains that Sarah was a sort of junior colleague who helped document their work and find new sources of meteor rocks. She died from the jitters after injecting herself with liquid meteor rock. They were not ready for public exposure, so they left her body where they knew someone would find it and return her to her family. Then he finally shows them what all the research is about. They are trying to find a cure for the meteor freaks. They have one of the bugs that Greg Arkin became. He also had the body of Tina Greer and Sean Kelvin. Sean is still frozen in a block of ice, barely alive. Dr. Jamison hopes to thaw him and cure him. His research had hit a dead end until he discovered the Hamilton papers; now the research is progressing faster than ever.
Sean Kelvin, frozen in a block of ice.

Then Dr. Jamison locks Pete and Chloe in a room and leaves them to think about whether or not they are willing to help him keep his secret. They find a way out and go looking for more information. Chloe finds surveillance video of the lab from the day Sarah died. She did not inject herself as Dr. Jamison claimed. Dr. Jamison injected her to see if his formula was ready. Dr. Walsh stole the body and put it where her family could find it preventing Dr. Jamison from studying it further just before he quit the team and disappeared. Just then, Dr. Jamison finds Chloe reviewing the tape and it is revealed that he is suffering from the jitters, but he has somehow found a way to control it so it isn't fatal, and he can use it as a weapon. He also reveals that he intends to find a way to give himself the strength of an insect, the disguises of a mimic, and the touch of ice. Pete hits him over the head with a chair before he can injure Chloe. They run to the warehouse, but Dr. Jamison catches up, incapacitates Pete, and chases Chloe. Chloe throws him an aerosol can that explodes when he shakes it up. She finds Pete and they run for the exit. They leave behind the Hamilton papers and notice that Sean is melting in the fire as they climb out to safety.

[edit] "Captive"

Lex will be allowed on the ward.
It's been only a few days since Lex Luthor was admitted to Belle Reve Sanatorium. He dreams of his mother accusing him of hurting his baby brother. He awakens to learn that his doctor has granted him privileges to join the other patients in the ward. He is pleased to learn that his drugs will be administered in the open now. He believes he will need all his faculties to make sense of what he's learned about Clark Kent. He joins a group therapy session but says he won't be staying long and day dreams about Clark Kent coming to his rescue and using his powers and abilities to break him out. He imagines they will be great allies. He tells the group that he is in Belle Reve because his father murdered his parents and his psychiatrist conspired with him to make it look like he is crazy. The other patients admire his paranoia.
Lex will get even with his father.

One month later, he asks a guard if he was able to get his message to Clark, but he hasn't. He's worried about Lionel. Lex is worried that Clark doesn't know where he is or that his parents are keeping him from visiting. He imagines using Clark and his abilities to get even with his father. When a fight breaks out among the patients over the last pudding cup, he realizes that he envies Clark and only wanted to use him, rather than help him. He vows to himself to be a true friend to Clark.

Lex sees Clark's powers.
After four weeks, Lex is listening to someone in a group therapy session who thinks he can fly, and he starts to wonder if he really did see what he thinks he saw. He starts to wonder if he really is crazy and if he really ought to be taking his medication. Then an orderly arrives to tell him that a visitor named Kent will be arriving tomorrow. Lex is relieved and excited that his friend has finally come.

[edit] Chronicle Seven

After Pete and Chloe escape from the burning laboratory, Lionel Luthor drives up in his limousine. They tell him that they are working on a school project just as the lab explodes. Lionel offers them a ride, but they decline. He threatens to call the authorities and Chloe threatens to expose his involvement in Sarah Strossberg's death. Lionel makes another threat using the same monster fish metaphor that Dr. Arthur Walsh used in his video to his son. When they return to the Torch office, Chloe summarizes that the secret lab was flooded when Wade's Pond drained into it after the explosion. Chloe suspects that Lionel Luthor has been after Dr. Jamison's research for a long time, so she not going to publish the story about the meteor freaks or their cure. It would be a disaster if Lionel Luthor were somehow able to gain the same powers that Dr. Jamison discovered. But she does write the story about Dr. Jamison's involvement in Sarah Strossberg's death, so that if he ever shows up again, there will be a warrant waiting for him.

[edit] Volume Three

"The Vengeance Chronicles"
The Vengeance Chronicles tell the further adventures of Andrea Rojas after her failed attempt to kill Lionel Luthor in early 2006. She disappeared for a time, but then reappeared at the Daily Planet basement office to tell Chloe Sullivan the truth about Lex Luthor's secret Level 33.1 project, then in its beginning stages.

Chloe and Andrea work together to expose Lex Luthor.

Andrea approaches Chloe one evening and asks her to hear her story. She states that after Clark Kent talked her out of killing Lionel, she decided to end her Angel of Vengeance career. However, when she gets home, her apartment is swarming with unidentified officers. She tries to sneak away unseen but is accosted by Nick Yang, who tells her that he is trying to help her escape. The officers blast Andrea with stun guns but Nick harnesses the energy with his hands and directs it back to them and the two escape together to the roof of the building. Nick talks her out of disappearing by explaining that the men are hunting down super-powered people in Metropolis. He shows her strange patterned scars on his torso from when he was experimented on. He tells her about how he and his girlfriend were being held in a facility but escaped. Just then, the men find them on the roof but Andrea grabs Nick and makes a flying leap to the adjacent building. Nick takes her to an abandoned subway station in which he and his girlfriend are hiding and it is revealed that his girlfriend is Molly Griggs.

Nick and Molly explain their plan to Andrea.

At this point, Chloe declares that she is uninterested in helping uncover anything Molly is involved in since Molly tried to have Chloe's best friends kill her with subliminal emails in early 2004. However, Andrea retains her attention by saying that she can prove that Lex's fabled Level 33.1 project is no longer a myth. She promises to obtain the proof and Chloe promises to write the article.

At their hideout, Nick and Molly explain that Lex has a secret apartment in LuthorCorp Plaza where he exploits metahumans for their powers. They used Molly to create a tracking device, which she was able to remove, allowing her and Nick to escape. At the same time. Lex temporarily shut down the project when he decided to run for State Senate, but after he lost, he resumed it. Bart Allen warned Nick and Molly that Lex had resumed the project and began hunting meteor freaks again, so they decided to find and warn Andrea before Lex caught her. They ask Andrea to help them expose Lex's project, claiming the only way they can get proof is to break into his mansion and access his personal computer to obtain files that prove the project exists.

Nick, Andrea, and Molly put their plan into action.

Andrea and Chloe end their conversation with high hopes that she will obtain the proof as Andrea prepares to go back to Smallville to break into the mansion. Nick uses his powers to manipulate Lex's security cameras and lights. Molly begins to work on the computer, but Andrea notices that she is downloading a program, not uploading files. Nick tries to distract Andrea but she realizes that Molly is installing something. Molly admits that she intends to hypnotize Lex into killing himself and Andrea protests, saying she did not agree to help commit murder. Nick and Molly feel the ends justify the means and the three argue. Andrea gets Nick to realize that she knows first-hand that killing in revenge will not solve the problem; it will only make them feel guilty for the rest of their lives. Nick changes his mind and destroys the computer instead, just as Lex's security arrives.

Chloe meets Andrea on the roof of the Daily Planet building. She has heard that Molly Griggs was admitted to Belle Reve and doesn't expect that Andrea was able to successfully obtain the proof. Andrea confirms this but reports that she was able to stop Molly from killing Lex. She says she will continue the work of her mother and use her powers to help people in need. Chloe admires how far Andrea has come and Andrea promises to give her first scoop on the future adventures of the Angel of Vengeance. Chloe begins work on proving the existence of Level 33.1.
