"Time for your treatment, ladies!"
— Michael Westmore, Tomb

Michael Westmore was a psychotic serial killer who worked as an orderly at the Smallville Medical Center. He murdered the troubled teenager Gretchen Winters in the Talon apartment in 1996, and sealed her body inside the bathroom wall. According the local sheriff, Gretchen was not the only girl killed in such fashion.

As a jeweller's son, Michael liked to put a green kryptonite-bejewelled bracelet on his dead victims, claiming it helps them "be at peace".

Season Five[]

Michael worked as an orderly at the Smallville Medical Center, and was ordered by Dr. Sydell to take Chloe Sullivan from ER into an observation room. When Chloe panicked from seeing Gretchen's ghost and desperately tried to convince everyone about it, Michael helped the doctor and nurses restrain her for sedation.

After Chloe escaped the hospital (absconded by Clark Kent), Michael went to the Talon apartment to track down Chloe. Chloe's cousin Lois Lane grew suspicious and blew him off politely, but he chloroformed and kidnapped her before she could call the police, and tied her up in his basement.

Chloe (possessed by Gretchen's spirit) came to Michael's home wanting revenge, subdued him with a taser and almost bashed him to death until she heard Lois in the basement. When Gretchen-Chloe tried to untie Lois, Michael recovered and knocked her out from behind. He then tied up both girls each to a chair, and tried to mentally torture them as "treatment". He gave Lois a large knife ordered her to slit her own wrist, threatening to shoot Chloe in the face otherwise, but Lois instead threw the knife into his chest. The enraged Michael was about kill Lois when Clark arrived to fight him, but Clark was weakened by the kryptonite bracelet Michael put on Chloe's wrist earlier and got easily knocked to the ground. Seeing that Michael was about to stab the downed Clark, Gretchen-Chloe distracted Michael by calling him "Mikey", a name that only those once close to him had used. Michael was shocked to hear Gretchen revealing that it was her in Chloe's body, and approached to slit her throat and give her "peace". Gretchen-Chloe used the opportunity to touch him with the bracelet and transferred Gretchen's spirit into his body. Despite his plea, Gretchen forced the possessed Michael to stab himself in the heart, killing him.

Notes[]

  • According to a Daily Planet article by Ted Biddleman at the end of Tomb, Michael was linked to at least 10 murders and had taunted the Smallville police for years, and associated him with a serial killer nicknamed "BTK" ("Bind, Torture, Kill") who terrorized Wichita during the 1990s. This is a somewhat edited article about the real-life serial murderer Dennis Rader, who killed ten people between 1974 and 1991 in Wichita and Park City, Kansas and sent taunting letters describing the details of his crimes to police and newspapers, under the alias "BTK Strangler". After a decade-long hiatus, Rader resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his 2005 arrest, and he is serving ten consecutive life sentences at El Dorado Correctional Facility in Prospect Township, Butler County, Kansas.
  • It is implied that Michael's father possibly killed his mother when he was young, as he claimed his mother "wasn't very nice" but his father "loved her" and "helped her be at peace", which inspired him to "help my girls".
  • According to the Daily Planet archive, Michael's home address is 7530 Laurel Ave., Smallville, Kansas, and his phone number is 555-0176.
