The romance between Clark Kent and Lois Lane began to flourish in Season Eight after having four preceding seasons to build a solid foundation of friendship. In Season Eight, Clark decided to head to Metropolis, getting a job at the Daily Planet as a means to help people in need with his powers in secret while Lois was his work partner. Eventually he was forced to create a dual identity after saving Lois as he was caught on camera by Jimmy Olsen's camera as a red and blue blur---and Jimmy began to call him the Red-Blue-Blur. Clark then began calling Lois as the Blur, using a voice scrambler, thus forming an even deeper bond with Lois that had drawn them closer to each other than ever before.

Early History[]

Unbeknownst to Lois, the Blur first entered her life from the moment that she first encountered Clark Kent in Miller's Field in 2004. He saved her life multiple times and a strong bond was forged between them. Lois grew closer to Clark when he comforted her after she split with Oliver Queen, and she returned the favor when Lana left Clark. They then began to work together at the Daily Planet, which made it more difficult for Clark to keep his superhero identity secret, as their relationship developed.

Season Eight[]

Identity — Lois is saved by the "Red-Blue-Blur".

Lois and Jimmy were on their way to meet Clark for dinner to discuss Jimmy's latest theory concerning a mystery super vigilante roaming the streets of Metropolis, fighting crime, when they were attacked by a mugger. As Lois fought back, she fell into the road in the path of an oncoming car. Fortunately, Clark superspeed to the rescue and pulled Lois to safety, but not before Jimmy got a photo. At first, Lois was confused how she managed to get across the street but Jimmy then realized that he had his first real hard proof evidence to support his theory a picture of this mystery hero a RED-BLUE BLUR.

Lois soon put herself in danger again when discovering Sebastian Kane's secret past. Clark was busy trying to prove to Jimmy that he was not the one in the photo by having Oliver Queen pose as the Blur, but Clark had to abandon his scheme when he got a call from Lois in danger and, as Sebastian Kane tried to kill her, Clark again superspeed to her rescue. This second save made Lois realize that there really was a superpowered hero in Metropolis. Meanwhile, Oliver was forced to go ahead with Clark's plan without him when Tess Mercer's henchmen tried to kidnap Jimmy. Clark arrived just after the save and Jimmy saw what he thought was the Blur while in Clark's presence realizing that they couldn't be the same person.

The next day, Clark came into work with everybody reading the article about the hero titled "Faster than a speeding bullet." With Clark's other persona now in the public eye, Lois set her mind on discovering the hero's identity. She then told Clark that she wouldn't rest until she landed the first exclusive interview with the hero.

When Linda Lake suddenly resurfaced and enlisted Clark to help her reignite her career by leaking every story about the Blur's rescues to her first or she would reveal his alien origins to the world. Clark felt his only choice was to come out to the public on his own terms by asking Lois to write his story. At first Lois was very skeptical and found Clark's claims to be hilarious until he held up the table that she was standing on. Lois was shocked and when Clark let go of the table, Lois fell into his arms, and told him, "I guess I should stop calling you Smallville..."

Lois immediately had lots of questions, the first being why was she the first person Clark told. Clark admitted that Lana and Chloe had known for years. Lois then began to inquire what type of "guns" he had in his arsenal. Clark proceeded to tell her about his super powers. Lois was slightly taken back by his X-raying ability and covered the top half of her chest until Clark reassured he needed to focus on the object to activate his power.

Lois began to put the pieces together and realized that now she understood how Clark was able to always come to her rescue. Once more, Clark asked her to write his story. Lois agreed, thinking he was meteor infected, which prompted Clark to tell her he was actually an alien from another planet called Krypton. Revealing the truth to Lois seemed to strengthen their relationship and Lois was very protective of Clark, particularly when Linda put a different spin on Lois' story and made the public believe that Clark was the first wave of an all out alien invasion. Linda's accusations put both Clark and Lois in danger, as the FBI believed she was hiding further information about Clark.

Clark rescued Lois from the FBI and told her that the only way to put things right in both of their lives was to use the Legion ring to rewind time. Lois was disappointed that Clark wouldn't fight back and knew that he wouldn't tell her his secret again. She was heartbroken, as she felt she wasn't special to him but Clark insisted that the reason for not telling her was because she was special and he wanted to keep her safe. Despite having confirmation of Lois' loyalty to him, after travelling back in time he pulled away from Lois and stood her up when they had arranged a date. Lois was very hurt and disappointed by this, but saved her dignity by claiming that she had been unable to make it, not realizing that Clark was watching her nearby.

Desperate to get an interview with the Blur, Lois created a superhero persona, Stiletto. After hearing of an incident in Metropolis, she raced to the site in her heroic costume but bumped into Clark instead of the Blur. Clark immediately recognized her and realized that she had made Stiletto up for a story. Seeing Clark's disappointment in her, Lois decided to abandon her heroic persona and put a stop to the story but needed to find Jimmy to delete the photos of her in costume. Her search for Jimmy led her to Bruno Mannheim who was about to kill him when Clark superspeed in to rescue him but was weakened by Mannheim's counterfeit Kryptonite-laced money. Lois saw Clark and Jimmy in danger and burst in to rescue them, but when Lois herself was almost shot by Mannheim, Clark took a bullet for her by jumping in the way.

02378 — Lois talk with the Red Blue Blur

After this ordeal, Lois felt close to Clark for saving her life by risking his own. Clark played up to this by pretending he was still wounded. Clark later phoned Lois as the Blur at a nearby phone booth. He told her that there was a better name than "Red-Blue-Blur," suggesting for her to search for a better one, as she was a great reporter. She told him that if he ever felt lonely, he could call her. Clark informed her that she'd be the first to know when he was ready to tell the world the truth about himself, thus bringing them closer.

The next time Clark phoned her as the Blur was to bid her farewell, as he believed he would die in battle with Doomsday. This surprised Lois, as she thought he was indestructible. She thanked him for all he had done for her and pleaded for him to meet her at their phone booth at midnight. Lois didn't make it to their rendezvous spot due to accidentally going to the future via the Legion ring during a fight with Tess. Clark arrived at the booth during Doomsday's destruction and realized that Lois had gone missing. Clark was upset by this and decided to cut everyone that he cared for out of his life.

Season Nine[]

Savior 3 — Clark saves the train, thus saving Lois in the process.

Clark was delighted when he saw Lois again after he saved her, by catching the monorail that she was on when it jumped the track. Returning to the present without any memory of where she had been for the past few weeks, Lois was unaware that any time had passed since her fight with Tess and tried to contact the Red-Blue Blur by rushing to their phone booth. Disappointed with his no show, Lois soon discovered that the Blur had abandoned his red and blue attire and was now wearing only black. Clark had made this decision, due to losing Lois and he had embraced his training with Jor-El, although Lois' reappearance disrupted his concentration and he was unable to continue.

Clark quickly re-established contact with Lois as the Blur, this developed into a "connection" where both Clark saw a different side of Lois, one that he was comfortable with telling Chloe talking to Lois felt right for him. His connection with her as the Blur helped him stay human and prevented him from drifting away from his friends and his dual identity. Soon Clark realized talking to Lois as the Blur put her life in danger, when she was kidnapped by John Corben who wanted revenge on the Blur for his sister's death. Lois was knocked unconscious by Corben but Clark saved her. As she awoke, Lois saw the Blur in the shadows and pleaded with him to reveal his identity but Clark supersped away, much to Lois' disappointment. After this, Clark decided to cut off contact as the Blur with Lois and returned to work as Clark Kent. Lois confessed to Clark that when she had spoken to the Blur, she felt a connection that she hadn't felt with anyone else. He was moved by her feelings, but didn't tell her his secret.

Later on, a series of botched saves occurred in the Blur's name. Clark discovered that this was the work of Zan and Jayna and when they were in Watchtower, they damaged Chloe's phone-jacking equipment whilst Clark was on the phone with Lois as the Blur. The damage that the twins caused deactivated Clark's voice scrambler, revealing his identity to Lois. She was shocked but hinted to Clark that she knew the truth, although he denied it. Things got out of hand when Ray Sacks declared the Blur a threat, thus triggering Clark's decision to reveal himself to the press, but Lois stepped in and told the crowd that the Blur was a symbol of hope - a light in the darkness. Ray was furious when this happened and his thugs threw her off the roof of the Daily Planet, but she saved herself by grabbing onto a flag-pole. Clark attempted to save her without revealing his powers but she confessed that she knew the truth. Sacrificing herself to keep his identity secret, Lois let go and she fell into the mist. Fortunately, Zan had transformed himself into fog and took her to safety. Lois assumed that Clark had saved her and she thanked him, but Chloe called her as the Blur while Lois stood next to Clark. Lois then accepted that Clark and the Blur couldn't be the same person.

Charada 1914 — Lois and Clark as the Blur.

Lois and Clark's relationship continued to grow but they were both keeping secrets from one another. After returning from a romantic vacation, Lois was contacted by Major Zod, masquerading as the Blur. Lois's relationship with the Blur then began to cause problems in her relationship with Clark. When Clark discovered that Lois was being used by an impostor, he tried to uncover the identity by asking Lois to tell her who he was. Lois interpreted Clark's uncalled behavior as jealousy, rather than him showing concern for her safety as he claimed, and was angry at him for this. To make matters worse for the couple, the newest editor Franklin Stern had issued a friendly rivalry challenge that threatened both of their jobs. Lois and Clark attempted to save their careers by doing an expose on the recently early release of former D.A. Ray Sacks, who was still gunning for the Blur. After causing an embarrassing scene at the welcome back party held for Sacks that landed on the front page of Metropolis Inquisitor newspaper, Stern fired the couple from the Planet.

Lois was then kidnapped by Maxwell Lord who used his powers to try and discover the identity of the Blur from her mind, but she subconsciously fought his power.

As the Blur, Clark saved Lois, and they had another encounter in which Clark was almost prepared to reveal himself. By this point, however, Lois decided that it was best that she didn't know his identity, as villains would use her to get to him. To protect her from impersonators and from those who would use her to get to him, Clark called Lois as the Blur and ended their relationship in an emotional goodbye. In a dinner on the rooftop, Clark and Lois tried to reconnect but she was devastated by the loss of the Blur. Clark asked Lois that now the Blur was gone whether he'd be enough for her, but she didn't answer.

Lois decided to break up with Clark when she saw that she and Clark weren't working out as a couple around the time Martha Kent made an unexpected return back to Smallville with her boyfriend Perry White. For a short time, Lois claimed that everything was perfect in her relationship with Clark to Martha until during dinner, she revealed that she and Clark were fired from the Daily Planet and their relationship was currently in turmoil. Clark confessed to Martha that, as the Blur, he discovered a different side of Lois that made him fall deeper in love with her, despite the fact that she hadn't shared this side with Clark Kent.

Zod, as the Blur, met Lois and asked her to take the Book of Rao from Clark. She chose to snoop through Clark's personal belongings, discovering Virgil Swann's Kryptonian journal and Clark's drawing of the Book. She rendezvoused with Zod, and she found out that he wasn't the Blur due to the difference of his touch on her shoulder. She refused to give him the Book, and Zod turned on her, pushing her away with super strength into a nearby phone booth. Clark saved her and passionately kissed her while hidden in the shadows, mistakenly believing that his secret was still safe, but Lois found out that it was him after he departed.

Season Ten[]

Lois found Clark's lifeless body on the ground below and pulled out the blue kryptonite knife, giving him a chance to be resurrected back to life by the dawn of the sunrise. Lois chose to protect Clark by not revealing her awareness of his secret until he willingly chose to reveal it to her all on his own. Taking cover in a nearby alley, Lois observed with great admiration as the rays of the sun healed Clark's wounds and restored his powers.

She and Clark shared a brief reunion at the Daily Planet archive room, where she revealed to him her reaction to the Blur's passionate kiss in an attempt to get a reaction out of Clark, who was pleased on how his alter-ego managed to leave a lasting impression on her. Lois realized that Clark was at the Planet archives for a reason and purposely dropped her pen behind a desk to give Clark the opportunity to use his abilities freely without her knowledge.

After kidnapping her and stringing her up as a scarecrow with a red 'S' painted on her shirt in the exact same field Clark was made as the Scarecrow, Luthor believed Lois to be Clark's greatest weakness and attempted to hurt Clark by causing her death, and set the field on fire. Clark then saved Lois, using his speed to extinguish the fire surrounding the field and getting Lois to safety. Lois awakened to see that she had been rescued and, without his knowledge, encouraged Clark to stop Lex. Lois decided to head to Africa, believing herself to be a hindrance to Clark from fulfilling his destiny. She left him a brief letter that Clark read, and was upset by her departure. While in the middle of the desert, Lois was sorrowfully gazing at a picture of herself and Clark as a happy couple.

During Lois's stay in Egypt, she encountered Carter Hall, who was sent by Clark to keep an eye on her. Carter quickly discovered that Lois knew about Clark's identity and powers as the Blur. Carter could also see that Lois was in love with Clark as was Clark with her and that they were meant to be together. He decided to tell Lois a story of two star-crossed lovers, Shayera and himself, to convince her to return to Clark. Meanwhile back in Metropolis, Clark contemplated on going to Egypt himself to be with Lois; he showed Oliver the plane tickets he had. However he came to realize that maybe it was the best way he could protect her from his life as the Blur. Lois discovered that Carter's story was actually his autobiography about his own life with his wife Shayera Hall. Carter told her that Clark needed her in order to become the hero he was destined to become.

1003Smallville1307 — Lois and Clark discuss their different views about the Blur

Lois returned to Metropolis and offered Clark moral support for his alter-ego when Gordon Godfrey launched a smearing campaign against the superhero community, causing the citizens to turn against their heroes. When Godfrey began to take cheap shots at the Blur, Lois was ready to defend The Blur during a press conference. Unfortunately, the billboard collapsed and Kara Kent caught it, revealing herself to everyone in the process.

Clark saw everyone's reaction and began to question if he had revealed his identity as the Blur when he first appeared, the people would trust him and Godfrey's antagonism against heroes wouldn't be as effective, but Lois pointed out that the Blur couldn't afford to do so, saying that he was meant to be a symbol of hope and if he revealed his identity he'd place everyone he cared about in danger.

Lois discovered that Godfrey was going to reveal Oliver's identity as Green Arrow to the world. She devised a plan to get incriminating evidence against him by disguising herself as a dominatrix and proceeded to obtain self-incriminating evidence against Godfrey, and he held her hostage due to this. He hanged Lois with ropes and would have almost killed her, but Kara and Clark saved her from choking to death. Back at the Planet, Clark believed that she went too far in trying to discredit Godfrey. Lois countered his argument, but did admit she was terrified. She then admitted her greatest fear was living in a world without heroes. Clark conjured up a theory that perhaps the heroes were placed on too high of a pedestal, to which Lois responded that the heroes are people too. She claimed that the Blur was different, and that she believed he would work out his fears and always be there for her.

1004Smallville1750 — Clark and Lois dance

Clark began to doubt himself when the world around him begins to turn against his hero persona as the Blur and the other heroes around. He decided to end his career as the Blur by not appearing for several weeks. Lois realized Clark could use some encouragement to brighten his life, suggesting they attend their high school reunion at Smallville High. Upon arriving at the celebration Lois and Clark encountered the new reporters for the Torch Zoe and Clayton, who had taken up Chloe's Wall of Weird legacy and have theorized that the Blur originated in Smallville. Lois tried to throw the two cub reporters off the trail of discovering Clark's secret when Zoe pointed out that Chloe wrote about all of these strange super incidents that happened before the Blur made his debut in Metropolis. Clark informed them that the Blur had gone away and may not be back, and Lois tried to cover for him by expressing how great it was to see that the Blur has inspired a new generation of followers.

1004Smallville1301 — Clark's future with Lois is revealed

Still in a state of depression from his memories of his past, Clark was eventually cured by Brainiac 5, who allowed him to see and experience his inevitable future as Superman, with his partner and wife Lois. After realizing how his fear of the future and mistakes from the past was keeping him from seizing the moment, he staged a dance with Lois at the barn, coincidentally the same place where he had danced with her during Chloe's wedding when they were interrupted by Lana's return. Clark admitted his love to Lois, and she returned his love. Not long after, Clark began to float in midair without his or Lois' knowledge. This was a signal that he had now started leaving the darkness within him, gained closure of his fears, his past mistakes and not forgiving himself for the death of Jonathan Kent.

After coming home from a bright future where Lois knew his secret and accepted him, Clark was eager to tell her and with Oliver's support, he tried although Lois was possessed by Isis at the moment of his confession. After her spirit was exorcised, Lois and Clark talked about the Blur. While initially hesitant, Clark mustered the courage to take another momentous leap toward the future he saw in their relationship and revealed to her that he was the Blur. She pounced on him in a romantic embrace, kissing him passionately and asking what took him so long. Although surprised, Clark smiled, as they could finally have an honest relationship.

In the Superman mythology, before Lois was fully aware of Clark Kent's true identity as Superman, she was involved in a love triangle with two men who turned out to be the same man, Superman and Clark Kent. At first Lois was madly head over heels in love with Superman and totally ignored Clark. However both Clark Kent and Superman were love struck with this woman from the very first sight. Eventually Lois began to take a huge interest in her Daily Planet partner when she came to the realization that being in a relationship with Superman could never be because he belonged to the world and she wasn't going to let him forsake his destiny for her. As her relationship with Clark deepen into a strong friendship it eventually blossomed into a full blown romance and Lois saw there was more to the mild mannered reporter than she had realized at first. It was then Clark chose to ask for her hand in marriage to which Lois agreed and Clark revealed to Lois he was in fact Superman.
"A Love Triangle Built for Two" is the name of the love triangle between Lois Lane, Superman, and Clark Kent that exist in the Superman mythology before their marriage. ^{[citation needed]}

In the re-vamped DC Comics line post New 52. Lois Lane once more learns the secret of Clark's duel Identity. However unlike previous incarnations of the tale, Lois from the beginning of Superman's first exploits had been complying a detail database that she had figured out his identity and had remained silent until Superman Vol 3 42 (Sept 2015) where she confronted Clark.

Lois: No, you don't. How can someone with x-ray vision be so blind? I've been down the hero road before. And every time, I made a giant u-turn. But this... this was different.

Clark: And this time, it will be different, Lois. When I do this, no one's gonna remember who I am.

Lois: And when you hit your reset button...you're not gonna tell me your secret, are you?

Clark: I'm sorry.

Lois: That's okay. Why should I think I'm special? Clark... I understand.

Clark: Lois, you don't understand. It's because you are special. I have to go.

Season Eight, Infamous

Chloe: I had no idea you were such a groupie of the red, bold and blue.

Lois: Well, who isn't? The man has reinvented the American hero. Think about it. He saves people. He's mysterious, completely unavailable. What part of that doesn't scream "Lois Lane"?!

Chloe: God, you seriously have a crush on him, don't you?

Season Eight, Stiletto

Clark: Is this Lois Lane, the reporter?

Lois: Who wants to know?

Clark: This is The Red-Blue Blur.

Lois: Yeah, right. How do I know you're not some deep throat wannabe with a lot of time on his creepy hands?

Clark: Look down. I received your letter, Miss Lane.

Lois: Call me Lois -- if you want. And while we're at it, do you want to weigh in on the whole "Red-Blue Blur" thing? Because it's kind of a mouthful on this end.

Clark: I think there's probably a better name out there, and if there's anyone who'll find it, it's you, Miss Lane.

Lois: I'll put my best men on it. And by "men," I mean me because I work in the basement and employ pretty much no one, unless you count my intern. I'm sorry. I'm rambling.

Clark: You're nervous.

Lois: Can you read my mind? Who am I kidding? It's Saturday night, and I hightailed it down here because I have one obsession right now, and it's you. And when you didn't respond to my skywriting, I just --

Clark: it was a nice one by the way

Lois: Between you and me, I could use a little work on that subtle thing.

Clark: You know there's nothing wrong with taking your job seriously.

Lois: There is when you don't know who you'd be without it.

Clark: Something tells me you know yourself better than you think. Lois, you're a great reporter all on your own. You don't need a hero or some gimmick to make a headline.

Lois: Thanks. My editor would kill me, but... I don't want this story. What I've really been wondering is... what is it that you need? I mean, you've dedicated your life to a city full of strangers. And I'm not saying that I know what it's like to be a hero, but... even the fastest blur in the world can't outrun loneliness. I guess what I'm saying is... ...if you ever want to talk totally off the record, I'm only a phone call away.

Clark: I'll keep that in mind. And, Lois... when I'm ready to tell the world my secret, you'll be the first to know.

Season Eight, Stiletto

Lois: Last year, when I was talking with the Red-Blue Blur... for the first time in my life, I was doing something that mattered. And I wanted to work with him because we did such good things together. But then I started to realize that... I wasn't just doing it to save people. I was doing it for me. I just wanted to be with him.

Clark: We all get crushes, Lois. It doesn't make you a bad person.

Lois: You don't understand. I had never had this connection with someone before. Now that I have this connection, I don't want to go back to the way things were. This is embarrassing to admit. I don't want to be alone anymore.

Season Nine, Rabid

Lois: I can't believe I was so stupid. I must have been crazy to look at Clark through Blur-colored glasses.

Dr. Evans: Lois, you are not crazy. That's the point of therapy -- to learn about yourself.

Lois: But just looking at the facts -- what's easier to believe? That there was some phone glitch, or that the farm guy who sits across from me every day is a super powered hero?

Dr. Evans: It's perfectly natural, Lois, to project the heroics of the unattainable men you tend to fall for onto someone close to you.

Lois: But it would be so much easier if they were the same person. When I heard the Blur's voice again, something stirred inside of me. But my thoughts... I keep going back to Clark. That scared guy who stepped down onto that ledge to save me.

Season Nine, Idol

Clark: What is it, Lois? You know you can tell me anything.

Lois: Can I? Then why did I lie to you?

Clark: We both agreed we would keep some things to ourselves.

Lois: I've been talking to the Blur, Clark. Doing things for him. Sharing things with him that I couldn't share with you.

Clark: It's probably just the reporter blood in you, right?

Lois: It was more then that, but we....I talked to him, and it's over. He doesn't want me in his life anymore.

Clark: Well, there's someone standing right here, who still does. It's okay.

Lois: You don't have to be okay with it. Clark... It's not right for me to ask that of you, Clark.

Clark: He meant a lot to you, didn't he?

Lois: It's not like this, with you. I wish you could understand what it felt like to have this...a calling, a duty, to people, and the world. That made my feelings for you and everything else seem...

Clark: Selfish? Like there's a whole world out there that needs you, but if you take anything from it for yourself, it's at someone else's expense... Lois, I do understand.

Lois: How?

Clark: I guess with him gone, the question is... am I enough?

Season Nine, Charade

Martha: Sometimes the hardest save to make isn't a stranger in a burning building, it's the person closest to you. Maybe you need to be honest with her.

Clark: I sort of tried to tell her who I am, but she thought it was more important I protect my identity. Talking to her as the Blur, I've seen a different side of her. And it's made me fall deeper in love. It's just not a side she's decided to share with Clark Kent.

Season Nine, Hostage

Clark: (to Lois) Look, my whole life has been full of relationships that have ended too soon. And then when I went away last fall, I... Lois, I felt so lost. When I came back to the bullpen... you were there waiting for me. You jumped out of your seat, you threw your arms around me, and the way that your eyes sparkled when you smiled, I just... I knew. I just knew that you were the one that I've always needed. And I needed you to know that.

Season Nine, Salvation

Clark: All my life I've been afraid, Lois. Afraid of people knowing the truth about me. Afraid of them rejecting me, and even if they didn't, still losing them. I've been afraid of everything I can't control.
