Early History

Very little is known about the early history of the JSA Brownstone. The Justice Society of America made it into their headquarters, in the 1970s. According to Courtney Whitmore, the JSA members viewed the Brownstone as their home away from home. They even used to celebrate Thanksgiving there, together with their spouses and children. Following the disbandment of the JSA, Carter Hall turned the brownstone into a museum.

Season Nine

By 2010, Carter Hall had closed down the Museum. However, he was still living there, together with Kent Nelson. Clark Kent found the Brownstone, but was thrown out by Carter. Later, Kent Nelson brought Courtney Whitmore to the brownstone, where she talked to both Kent and Carter, into helping her. Dr. Fate later teleported Clark back to the Brownstone, where Clark discovered items, belonging to the former members of the JSA and a portrait of them on a wall. Following the defeat of Icicle, Carter tracked down the surviving JSA:ers, their children and protégés, in order to reform the JSA.

Season Eleven

A couple of years later, Clark and Bart Allen visit the JSA Brownstone, being tended to by Ma Hunkel. She lets them past the security measures and Clark takes Bart into the museum honoring the members of the JSA. Bart recalls that this was Carter's group but wonders how any of the artifacts will help them with his problem with the "speed demon". Clark explains they are there to begin a search for the first hero to break the sound barrier on foot, Jay Garrick.

Later, Jay and Clark meet at the JSA brownstone and talk about Bart and Carter. Clark tells him not to blame himself but Jay feels like he should've done something about it years ago. Jay leaves with Abigail when Emil shows up, but not before looking at his old tin hat.

Lex Luthor visits the JSA Brownstone.

Some time later, Lex Luthor visits Abigail at the former headquarters of the Justice Society, which contains Alan Scott's old power battery, to ask about the history of the Green Lanterns.

Lex is making no progress in his search for answers on the Green Lanterns from Mrs. Hunkel. He wants to know about Alan Scott and comes to the point of threatening Mrs. Hunkel, but she tells him nothing, and also warning him that she will call Ted Grant. Suddenly, the lantern battery on display in the room lights up, relaying Superman's distress signal.

Notes

• The interior of the JSA Brownstone is actually the set used for the interior of the Luthor Mansion, which the crew redesigned for Absolute Justice.

In the Comics

The Brownstone as it appears in the comics.

The headquarters for the JSA was initially a hotel suite in New York City and, after the war, the team settled on a brownstone building in Gotham City and later in Civic City. For a very brief period, the JSA was provided a satellite headquarters, much like their later counterparts, the JLA. However, this turned out to be a deathtrap orchestrated by a crooked senator's henchman from Eliminations, Inc. The Gotham City brownstone remained unoccupied until years later, when the team was active again. The current headquarters is a brownstone in the neighborhood of Morningside Heights, Manhattan, north of Central Park.
