"We will reach out to everyone who has suffered your injustice, and form our own league." – Plastique, Injustice

The Injustice League was Tess Mercer's team of meteor freaks which was formed to find Doomsday for the Traveler to destroy.

Members[]

Injustice League first appeared in Season Eight. The members are:

  • Mirror (Eva Greer) (Deceased): A shapeshifter and one of Tess' personal assistants, working for Tess after she took control over LuthorCorp in autumn 2008. Appears for first time in Instinct.
  • Plastique (Bette Sans Souci): A psychotic 15 year-old girl with the ability to project high-frequency energy blasts in the form of explosives. First appears in Plastique. She is now a member of the Suicide Squad.
  • Parasite (Rudy Jones): He has the ability to steal other metahumans' powers at will. Appears for the first time in Injustice.
  • Livewire (Leslie Willis) (Deceased): Has the ability to produce electricity within her body and then produce it externally with great control over it, with the electricity coming from her hands. Appears for the first time in Injustice.
  • Neutron (Nathaniel Tryon) (Deceased): He was recruited by Tess to join her team that was hunting down Doomsday. He and Livewire tracked Doomsday to a garage in Granville where Doomsday attacked them. Neutron tried to defend himself, but was killed by the creature. Appeared in Injustice.

Season Eight[]

When Tess took over LuthorCorp, she shut down the Black Creek facility and many metahumans escaped. She began recruiting them to form a team of heroes of Earth. Tess first tried to recruit Bette Sans Souci, but she blew up the bus Tess was on. Later, Bette agreed to join Tess' group so she wouldn't go to Belle Reve.

When Randy Klein began killing people to emulate the killings of Doomsday, he was stopped by Clark Kent and arrested. Tess sent her assistant Eva to go and blackmail Randy into joining by providing evidence that he wasn't the real killer.

After Plastique and Parasite were defeated, Oliver Queen explained that they were securely locked away but then both of them were released by Rick Flag to join his team of mercenaries called the Suicide Squad.

In the Comics[]

Injustice League III

The Injustice League as they appear in the comics.

Plastique, Livewire, Parasite and Neutron are all Superman's enemies.

The original (retconned) Injustice League was the brainchild of the interplanetary conqueror Agamemno. Bored of his dominion, he set out to conquer Earth and their champions, the Justice League. Aided by the alien former dictator Kanjar Ro, Agamemno contacted Lex Luthor and they recruited other villains to their cause. Agamemno then engineered a switch wherein the villains' minds switched with those of the JLA. In the true JLA's absence, other Silver Age heroes came to clash with the now seemingly evil heroes. Eventually, Green Lantern used the power of Oa's Central Power Battery and a Thanagarian weapon called "Absorbascon" to reverse the mind swap. Having spent time in their enemies' bodies, the villains knew their heroic counterparts inside-out. To regain the edge, the JLA used the power of Robby Reed's alien H-Dial to transform themselves into totally different heroes. Then, using his power ring through the Absorbascon, Green Lantern removed all knowledge of the heroes' secret identities from the villains' minds. The second Injustice League (the first in publishing history) was created by artist Keith Giffen during his run on the Justice League International comic book. It was composed of Cluemaster, Major Disaster, Clock King, Big Sir, Multi-Man, and the Mighty Bruce. The team would be used, in line with the humoristic tone of the series, as a highly unsuccessful villain team. All the actions of the team would end with humoristic failures. During an Annual of the comic book, Maxwell Lord sent them, along with the incompetent Green Lantern G'nort and his nemesis the Scarlet Skier, to Antarctica to become the Justice League Antarctica. It was done so in order to get rid of them, but the team would have their headquarters destroyed by mutant penguins. After Giffen's run in the series, the team volunteered to join the Suicide Squad. On their first mission, Big Sir was killed; Multi-Man was shot through the head (but survived thanks to his powers); and the Clock King and Cluemaster were seriously injured.

The opposite of the Justice League is the Injustice League, a team dedicated to destruction. Major villains part of this team are The Joker, Lex Luthor and the Cheetah. Luthor, Joker, and Cheetah III (widely regarded as the archenemies of the JLA's three primary members: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively) formed an Injustice League, as first seen in the Justice League of America Wedding Special.

The Core Members of the team comprise of a select group of various arch-nemeses. Luthor has the idea to bring the villains together, claiming it was a protection racket first but with the ultimate aim of conquering the United States. During the storyline, the Injustice League splits up and manages to capture the Justice League members in small groups. However, the JLA is freed by Firestorm, and it battles the Injustice League at its swamp headquarters. In the ensuing melee, many of the villains flee (later to attack Black Canary and Green Arrow's wedding), but most are taken captive by the League. It is revealed at this time that Luthor actually had a secret goal in forming the league. He refuses to reveal details, but mentions that he planned for his capture.Though the covers featured a large number of villains, membership differed in the actual story. Some of the members were: Lex Luthor(Founder), Joker(Founder), Cheetah (Barbara Minerva)(Founder), Doctor Light (Arthur Light)(Core member), Fatality(Core member), Gorilla Grodd (Core member), Killer Frost (Louise Lincoln)(Core member), Parasite(Core member), Poison Ivy(Core member), Shadow Thief(Core member),Amazo, Black Manta Brain, Clayface (Basil Karlo),Deathstroke, Giganta, The Key, Killer Croc, Metallo, Mister Freeze, Mirror Master, Monsieur Mallah, Prankster Psimon, Scarecrow, T. O. Morrow, Toyman, and Two-Face. It contained super-villains working for the comics on dangerous missions and also contained deadly explosives. While it seems the membership is much greater in the promotional image of Justice League of America vol. 2, #13, the core members of the team shown by Wizard magazine are a select group of various arch-nemeses.It is notable that the alternative covers of the second issue of the arc (Justice League of America vol. 2, #13) feature many more villains than were actually in the League, including Amazo, Bizarro, Black Adam, Sinestro,Granny Goodness, Icicle,Merlyn, and the Rogues (Heat Wave, Captain Cold, Weather Wizard,Abra Kadabra, and Mirror Master).

The Injustice Gang resembled the second Suicide Squad of the comics. The original Injustice Gang's membership consisted of: Libra, Chronos (David Clinton), Mirror Master (Sam Scudder), Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Shadow Thief, Tattooed Man (Abel Tarrant). By the end of the first appearance, it is revealed that their entire operation was massive feint by their organizer, Libra, to test a power-stealing device. A series of "Plan B" devices the villains had been given in case the JLA defeats them absorbs half of the heroes' powers and transfers them to Libra. Satisfied with the results, he then turns his device upon the universe itself, hoping to become a god. Instead, Libra is absorbed into the universe itself, effectively disintegrating him and spreading his essence across the cosmos. The JLA later modifies the android Amazo to recover their lost powers. The villainous Construct regroups all of the members save the Shadow-Thief, as well as a mentally-controlled Wonder Woman; the Construct is destroyed and the Injustice Gang's satellite is apparently destroyed. Later, Abra Kadabra reforms the gang yet again with all prior members when the alien Ultraa causes superheroes to lose their powers while villains' abilities are increased. This time, the Gang takes over the Justice League's original headquarters in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island, but are once again routed. In a story set between the first and second appearances of Libra's Injustice Gang but published more recently, another version of the group appears. The members of this Gang include: Captain Boomerang, Floronic Man, I.Q., Shark (Karshon), Ocean Master, Abra Kadabra. Despite being seen destroyed in an earlier story, the Injustice Gang's satellite later reappeared during the Identity Crisis miniseries, now a shabby clubhouse for villains in-between schemes. It is also a place of business for a gang of mercenary supervillains headed by Calculator. In the miniseries, Merlyn, the criminal nemesis of Green Arrow, openly states his derision of the name Injustice Gang, saying, "Some try to be a bit more professional".The satellite also appeared in the first DC/Marvel crossover, when Lex Luthor and Doctor Octopus used it as the location from which they would blackmail the world, with Superman and Spider-Man only just managing to defeat them.

The subsequent incarnation of the team appeared in the "Rock of Ages" storyline of JLA (#10-15). This team was formed to mirror the Justice League of that era, with each member being a recurring enemy of a corresponding member of the League. Lex Luthor stated that he formed the Injustice Gang in response to the creation of the new League because, while he perceived previous Leagues to be mere annoyances at best, he saw Superman's leadership as being Superman 'throwing down the gauntlet'. Its members included: Lex Luthor, Joker, Circe, Doctor Light, Mirror Master (Evan McCulloch), Ocean Master, Jemm. However, the team had problems from the beginning; Jemm was only on the team because Luthor was manipulating his mind with the 'Philosopher's Stone'—later revealed to be the Worloggog—, and Mirror Master later defected from the group when Batman offered to pay the mercenary double what Luthor was offering him. Attempting to manipulate Green Arrow (Connor Hawke) and new hero Aztek into betraying the League—Hawke was seemingly seduced by Circe into believing that the League looked down on him and Luthor revealed that he had provided the financial support necessary to create Aztek's armour—, Luthor had intended to force the League to disband and subsequently form a new League under his control. However, thanks to Plastic Man infiltrating the group disguised as the Joker, coupled with Luthor's inability to understand the true motivations of heroism (meaning that he underestimated what he would have to do to win Green Arrow's allegiance), the League were able to turn the tables on Luthor's plot, subsequently taking the Stone from Luthor after taking out the other members of the Gang. Unfortunately, no charges could be pressed due to the Gang having caused no real harm, forcing the League to allow them all to go free.Luthor reformed the team in the "World War III" storyline (JLA #36-41) with new members. This team did not attempt to mirror the League, but instead consisted of villains who had posed major solo threats to the JLA in the past. It included: Queen Bee, The General, Prometheus. However, it was swiftly revealed that the new Injustice Gang was being manipulated by the ancient superweapon Mageddon to keep the League occupied, with Lex Luthor serving as Mageddon's unwilling 'emissary'. After Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern were able to break through Mageddon's hold on Luthor, Steel, Plastic Man, Barda and Wonder Woman took out the Queen Bee, Superman, Orion, Martian Manhunter and Sturmer were able to trap the General in the limbo that Prometheus had discovered, while Batman defeated Prometheus after reprogramming his helmet—normally capable of giving him the combat skills of thirty of the world's greatest martial artists—to give him the physical characteristics of Stephen Hawking.
