Kryptonian dagger

The Kryptonian dagger is a blade given to Clark Kent by Jor-El to destroy the vessel of General Zod: Lex Luthor, who was given Kryptonian powers by Brainiac. [citation needed] The Kryptonian symbols on the dagger's blade translate literally as "RTDSME" [1] ; the meaning of the symbols is unknown.
A second dagger was found by Lara-El in the Fortress of Solitude (Blue). It was unsuccessfully used by Lara in an attempt to kill Zor-El.

The dagger appears to be capable of inflicting damage even on super powered Kryptonians. [citation needed]
The dagger also bypasses many of the security mechanisms that limit access to the Fortress console. When Brainiac was stabbed with a Kryptonian dagger, he was somehow able to access the power of the Fortress to open a portal to the Phantom Zone. Normally that would require access to the crystals and console of the Fortress; somehow because the dagger was part of the Fortress, Brainiac was able to circumvent the access limitations of the console, and access the power of the Fortress directly through the dagger. The dagger can be broken; Zod successfully snapped the dagger in half, after Lana's unsuccessful assassination attempt against him. [citation needed]
The dagger also has a fairly low success rate against Kryptonians. It has only been successful once against a super powered opponent, when Clark used it to destroy Milton Fine (Vessel). Lana was unsuccessful in using it against Zod (Zod) and Lara was unsuccessful in attempting to kill Zor-El (Blue).
It is unclear whether or not its low success rate is due to the super speed of potential victims (Zod and Zor-El), or if somehow not as effective a weapon when wielded by inexperienced Kryptonians (Lara).

Though he had gained the upper hand on Lex, Clark could not bring himself to kill him and instead hurled the Kryptonian dagger at Milton Fine; Fine was impaled in the chest with it, and used the dagger to gain access into the Fortress to release General Zod into Lex's body. (Vessel)

Later, Lana Lang tried to use the Kryptonian dagger to kill Zod, but he saw beyond her trap and broke the blade in half. (Zod)
