Lachlan Luthor is the father of Lionel Luthor and grandfather of Lex, Julian, and Lucas.

Lachlan Luthor was born in 1916 in Scotland. He eventually married Eliza Meehan and had a son, Lionel, where he grew up in Suicide Slums of Metropolis.

In the year 1961, Lachlan was in Smallville. He tried to steal Louise McCallum's purse, but was tossed aside by Jor-El, who was posing as Joe. He was soon hired by Billy Tate (an officer at the time) to kill Joe the Drifter. Billy let him out of jail, and Lachlan went to the McCallum farm. He came upon Jor-El and Louise in the barn, and shot at Jor-El. The bullets bounced off of him and hit Louise, killing her.
Around the late 1970's, his son Lionel partnered with Morgan Edge to kill his parents. They set a fire in his parents apartment, killing Lachlan and his wife Eliza.
Years later, Lachlan's grandson Lex questioned his father about his grandparents after talking to Clark about a Lachlan Luthor who was arrested for attempted theft. Lionel said that they died in a tenement fire. After enough proof for a case, Lionel was arrested and put on trial, and was sentenced to jail. Lionel later got out, but Lex knew that his father killed "Grandfather Lachlan."
