[edit] Season Eight

The Persuader stole a Legion ring from the 31st century and used it to travel back in time to kill Kal-El so that he wouldn't be able to stop Brainiac from destroying Earth. The Legion of Super-Heroes also traveled back in time to stop the Persuader from killing Kal-El and when they defeated the Persuader, took away his Legion ring sending him back to the 31st century. Clark was given a Legion ring before the Legion went back to the future.

When Clark revealed his secret to the world after being blackmailed by Linda Lake, she put a spin on the story and the world turned against him. He then chose to use the Legion ring to go back to before the story began but Linda overheard his plan and tried to stop him using Kryptonite. She intended to use the ring so that she could see the future storylines and be a world famous reporter, but Lois Lane stopped her and Clark put on the ring before Lois could tell him that Davis Bloome is actually Doomsday after hearing a message from Chloe. Clark then destroyed the ring believing that time travel is too dangerous to be controlled.

Later Rokk Krinn returns from the future to warn Clark about the threat of Doomsday and that saving Chloe was a mistake in history. After their conversation, he gives Clark another legion ring in case he changes his mind. Clark puts the legion ring in his desk at the Daily Planet for safe keeping. Later when Tess and Lois battle it out, Lois finds the legion ring and disappears.

[edit] Season Nine

Lois suddenly reappears after having been missing for 3 weeks, aboard the Metropolis monorail train. With the Legion flight ring on her hand with no recollection of where she's been.

She discards it after leaving the hospital and Chloe finds it. Later, Chloe begs Clark to use it in order to save Jimmy from being killed by Davis. Clark refuses and Chloe leaves with the ring. Currently, the ring is in Chloe's possession.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

Wearing a Legion ring gives the wearer the ability to travel in time and space to any point at the wearer's choosing. The Persuader used a stolen Legion ring to travel back in time to try and kill Kal-El so that he wouldn't stop Brainiac. As soon as the ring was removed from the Persuader, he was immediately taken back to the 31st century.

It also gives the wearer the ability of flight so that even if they don't naturally possess the ability, they can still fly.

[edit] In the Comics

Legionnaires Flight Ring
In the comics, the Flight Ring has had various origins, with all origins having something to do with Brainiac 5, although the longest standing origin is that it was developed by Brainiac 5 out of a metal called Valorium invented by Invisible Kid. They give the wearer the power of flight whether they possess it naturally or not, provides telepathic communication with other people who possess a ring, can be used as a location beacon and can generate a personal environmental field, allowing the wearer to travel in space.

Each ring bears the symbol of the Legion of Super-Heroes on it. All Legionnaires are given a ring once they are a Legionnaire.

[edit] Notes

  • Legion Rings in the comics don't possess any time travel abilities. They instead use varies other means, such as Boom-Tubes or Time Spheres.
  • Cosmic Boy actually states that The Persuader stole the ring then broke into the "Time Institute" suggesting that the ring works in conjunction with a time machine and is used as a connection to return to the future.
