"If I had to describe my experience in this town in one word, it would be 'weird'." - Lois Lane
Lois Lane is a fledgling journalist working for the Daily Planet and the bold, outspoken, older cousin of Chloe Sullivan. She has worked a variety of jobs over the years: campaign manager for Jonathan Kent when he ran for Kansas State Senator, chief of staff for Martha Kent when she took Jonathan's position in the State Senate, and reporter for the Metropolis Inquisitor,
Since living at the Kent Farm for most of what should have been her freshman year of college, Lois has grown quite close to the Kents, even seeing Martha Kent as the mother she never had. Her relationship with Clark Kent is full of teasing that sometimes gets the best of them; however, they also look after each other and offer each other advice.
Lois was the Maid of Honor at Chloe's wedding in November 2008. During the wedding, she started to show her feelings toward Clark and they almost shared a kiss until Lana Lang showed up and interrupted them, leaving Lois devastated. But the wedding ended disastrously when a mysterious monster kidnapped Chloe and severely injured Chloe's husband, Jimmy Olsen. Jimmy was transferred to Star City for care and Lois accompanied him, stating that she would stay with him until she heard from Chloe again. She finally returned a month later, after Lana's departure.
Since then she has gotten closer to the Red-Blue Blur by disguising herself as a superhero named "Stiletto", yet she is still unaware that her hero is Clark. She spoke to the Red-Blue Blur before he confronted Doomsday and arranged to meet with him face-to-face, but she got into a fight with Tess Mercer and found the Legion ring Clark had left behind, which transported her to an unknown time period.

[edit] Personality
"It's my story. I don't share bylines." - Lois Lane, Reunion
Lois' childhood and youth was spent on different army bases with her father, General Sam Lane, whom she refers to as "The General". As a result of her upbringing, Lois is a persistent, slightly impulsive, if not head-strong, woman. She often uses sarcasm and random, obscure references to illustrate her point. [1] She takes charge of (or takes over) most situations and is wildly brave, often risking her life by crashing forward, only to have to either frantically talk her way out of or physically defend herself in dangerous situations. [2]Lois' familiar relationships give great insight into her motivations and actions. She is as close as a sister to her cousin Chloe and is very protective of her. Lois has been shown to bravely do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of her loved ones.[3] Despite their arguing, Lois is surprisingly caring towards Clark, frequently but reluctantly admitting that she appreciates his friendship. [4] Lois' nickname for Clark is "Smallville".
Lois' tough exterior seemingly covers underlying insecurities. She desperately seeks approval from her father, even though she feels like he abandoned her for his military duties.[5] She blames herself for her sister Lucy's failures, but is full of pride and admiration of her accomplishments. She has described herself as a "screw-up" and freely acknowledges when she has worsened a situation. [6] She also talks without thinking, causing her to often seem insensitive, but usually regretfully so. [7]
Lois has a considerable ability to drink vast amounts of alcohol. [8] She also has a tendency to deal with her emotions using alcohol. [9] Her binge drinking sometimes resulted in unfortunate consequences: she was kicked out of Metropolis University for drinking, and embarrassed herself by giving an offensive toast at Chloe and Jimmy's engagement party. [10]
Lois enjoys video games [11] and 1980s rock music. [12] She is also very athletic; she is trained in various sorts of martial arts, runs [13], and is a good swimmer [14].
[edit] Early Life
Lois is the daughter of General Sam Lane and an unnamed mother. She spent her formative years as an army brat, following her career military father around the world. Her mother died when Lois and her younger sister, Lucy were both very young; Lois was six at the time. Later, Sam sent Lucy to boarding school, while Lois traveled around with him during her youth. She also had a school romance with Wes Keenan, who was also an army brat and had a childhood romance with him in grade school.
[edit] Season Four
"Call me crazy, but I've always been a firm believer that beauty-- it's on the inside." - Lois Lane to Dr. Fine, Facade
Lois came to Smallville to investigate Chloe Sullivan's murder, after she found a video diary Chloe made addressed to Clark Kent, regarding her information on Lionel Luthor. Driving through the countryside, a bolt of lightning struck the cornfield in front of her. When she exited to investigate, she found a naked and disoriented Clark Kent, returned to Earth as Kal-El. Lois took him to the Smallville Medical Center where he was recognized by his mother, Martha Kent. Upon learning that she had indeed found Clark Kent, Lois visited the Kent Farm the next day to ask Martha if they knew anything about Chloe's death. Martha warned her not to get tangled with Lionel Luthor.
When Kal-El was restored as Clark, he offered to help her solve Chloe's death. They investigated together and found Chloe alive. Lois stayed with the Kents until her father, General Lane came to collect her, she then left to start her first semester at Metropolis University.
However, she later learned that she failed her last semester of high school, as she did not have enough credits to graduate. General Lane ordered her to enroll in Smallville High to finish. The Kents again offered to let her stay and she did so while she attended high school.
During her time at Smallville High, Lois wrote for the school newspaper, the Smallville Torch. Although Lois did not seem enthusiastic about journalism, she often teamed up with Clark and Chloe for various investigations as they worked together to find out the truth about meteor infected humans in Smallville. She helped investigate on a strange love potion that infected Chloe and wrote an article about plastic surgery that won her some acclaim from Torch readers. Through it all, Lois and Clark continued to squabble, trading sarcastic remarks back and forth and generally frustrating each other.
On Chloe's eighteenth birthday, Lois was possessed by a 17th Century witch, Brianna Withridge. With Lana and Chloe also possessed by witches themselves, they joined a wild party and stripped Clark of his powers. When he recovered his powers, all three girls were restored to normal.
Later, Lois pleaded to the dean while, in addition, Clark asked Lex Luthor to pull some strings and she was allowed to attend Metropolis University.
Lois and Chloe were singing karaoke when Clark and Alicia came into the Talon, which Lois said an inappropriate comment about their relationship. Then Lois went out with a guy named Tim Westcott and found out he was trying to murder Jason and Lana because of their unnatural relationship(age difference). Lois told Clark and he was about to kill Tim for murdering Alicia Baker but Lois talked him out of it before he actually did it.
Shortly after it began, Lois' stint in college came to a disastrous end when she was wrongly accused of attacking a Met U football player and expelled for violating the drinking policy. When she discovered the real assailant, Geoff Johns, he proceeded to paralyze her, placing her in an underground water tank to drown. Clark saved her just in time. Unable to admit to her father what had happened, she asked the Kents if she could come back to stay with them until she figured something out.
Lois was reunited with her sister, Lucy, who came to Smallville to ask her sister to help her resolve a situation with a European loan shark. The two were later kidnapped during Lucy's attempt to extort money from Lex. When Lucy skipped town with Lex's money, Lois blamed herself for the way Lucy turned out. For the first time, Lois talked to Clark openly about how her father brought her up.
After Martha was possessed by Dawn Stiles, Lois questioned her odd behavior, believing she was drunk. Soon after, Lois was also possessed by Dawn and went to the prom with Clark. After her personality was restored, she was confused why she was in a dress and at their prom. Clark offered to dance with her but she encouraged him to dance with Lana instead.
On the way home one evening, Lois hit a dog and brought him to the Kent Farm. The dog turned out to possess super-strength and Clark decided to keep him. She also joined Martha Kent as a part-time waitress in Talon.
On Clark's last day of high school, Lois helped him locate Chloe and Lana who had both gone missing. Suspecting Brendan Nash took them, Clark and Lois located a warehouse in which Brendan had set up a fake high school. Lois found her own way in and became a wax statue, thanks to Brendan's meteor power. Brendan almost shattered her with a bat but Clark blocked the strike and saved all three girls from being killed; when Brendan died, she and the others were restored to normal.
The day of Clark's high school graduation, Lois announced to the Kents that she and her father would be leaving to go find her sister. However, the second meteor shower prevented her from leaving and she watched the devastation that laid waste to the town.
[edit] Season Five
"Oh and about that lap dance, if you decide to tell anybody about it, your Elmer Fudd nightlight will make a very public appearance." - Lois Lane to Clark Kent, Exposed
After the meteor shower of 2005, Lois went to look for the Kents at the barn and found them both alive, but Martha was seriously injured. She helped Jonathan take her to the hospital where she was assaulted by Kryptonians Nam-Ek and Aethyr. They let her go when Lana Lang diverted their attention by telling them what they wanted to know. Lois then continued her original plan to leave with General Lane in search of her sister.
Soon afterward, Lois returned to Smallville and moved back into Kent Farm and got her old job back at the Talon, much to the annoyance of Clark. At Crater Lake, Lois hit her head while diving and almost drowned. Clark went in to save her, but was beat by a another swimmer, A.C.. They connected and kissed, but was caught by Clark walking in on them. Clark became extremely rude to A.C., and Lois told Clark to back off, thinking that he's jealous of A.C. He broke up with Lois and left town soon afterward. Clark and Lois made up and Clark told her that she'll find someone more special than A.C. someday.
Lois and Chloe found themselves in the middle of a murder investigation after receiving a call from an exotic dancer from the Windgate Club. Chloe and Lois went undercover where Lois posed as a dancer. She was taken by a wealthy patron Mr. Lyon, but it was revealed that he was kidnapping or killing dancers. Clark was able to save her just before Mr. Lyon took her and turned him over to police.
Shortly after, Lois moved out of the Kent's and into the apartment above the Talon. During Jonathan and Lex's Senate race, Lois confronted Lex and suggested he bow out before someone dug up incriminating information on him. Lex was unconcerned, which fueled her passion even more. She convinced Chloe to help her dig up information on Lex that would make him lose the race. They attempted to investigate Warehouse 15, but were thwarted by security. Lois was disappointed to come up empty-handed, and Chloe suggested she become a reporter. Lois commented that she would never be able to stand all of the unanswered questions.
After Lois criticized the image his campaign manager was portraying of Jonathan Kent, Jonathan fired him and hired Lois to manage his bid for Senate. She hung up posters, arranged rallies, and managed his finances. When a student obsessed with Lex Luthor attempted to kill Jonathan, she tried to force Lois to shoot him. With Clark's help (he caught the bullet), Lois was able to fight her off. When Jonathan confronted her about taking money from Lionel Luthor, she did not inform him that it was Martha who originally accepted Lionel's offer and instead took the blame herself. Later, when Martha clarified the situation, Jonathan apologized to her.
The day Jonathan won the election actually happened twice- The first time, Lana came to help Lois by catching her when she was about to fall off the stool and was distracted by something about Clark. Lois tells Lana that she'd be lucky to end up with someone like Clark someday to ease Lana's head. After Jor-El reversed time, Lana didn't come to save her from falling and was about to get electrocuted until Clark rescued her. She attended Jonathan's funeral with Chloe soon after.
When Chloe was possessed by the spirit of a murdered girl, she seemingly tried to kill herself and Lois took her to the hospital. Lois felt guilty about Chloe's condition and was extremely concerned for her safety. Later, Lois and Chloe were abducted by the girl's killer Michael Westmore, who almost killed them both. With Clark's help, they were able to free Chloe from the spirit and escape being murdered.
Lois was the first to encounter a hypnotized Clark after he met the evil Simone after seeing them making out behind the Talon. Chloe enlisted Lois' help to try and stop Clark from leaving with Simone and killing Lex. When Martha became hypnotized as well, she almost shot Lois, but Chloe stopped her just in time. When Martha's chief of staff was murdered, she took in her foster daughter, Maddie Van Horn. However, while Lois was in charge of watching Maddie, she encountered Maddie's murderous father, Tyler McKnight. Lois was injured when McKnight shattered a car window and sent the glass flying towards her. Lois felt great guilt and disappointment with herself for letting Maddie get taken. Martha later hired Lois as her new Chief of Staff.
Lois was wined and dined by the wealthy Graham Garrett. After Clark saved his life, he met Lois at Clark's house, believing she was Clark's girlfriend but was told otherwise and was immediately impressed with her and began to lavish her with expensive and exotic dates. Later, he threw a party and invited Clark. Clark was suspicious of Graham; when he found Lois as Graham's date, he was upset. Lois was annoyed and asked Clark to "pretend not to know her." Later, Lois was showering and getting ready for a date with Graham when she thought she heard an intruder nearby. Her suspicions raised, she went into defense mode and threw open the bathroom door, still naked. In a role reversal of their first meeting, she met face to face with a wide-eyed Clark. When Chloe revealed Graham to be a hired hit-man, Lois talked to Martha about why she always attracted bad boys, but Martha assured her that she had similar experiences at Lois' age, and tells Lois that the reason they date the wrong people is so that they can recognize the right person.
On his birthday, Lois made Clark an irregular blue rum cake and gave him a journal, so that he would hopefully find some way to release all the feelings he kept bottled up about Lana. She helped Chloe and Martha throw him a surprise party. However, with the presence of only three guests and the tangible absence of Jonathan, the party was small and subdued. Lois met Lana at the Talon and realized that Lana was in a relationship with Lex. Lois offered an ear and had a three hour conversation with Lana about the status of her relationship with Lex. Clark was depressed because of the developing relationship between Lex and Lana, and Lois tried to reassure him by reminding him he will find someone someday that may not be Lana.
Martha and Lois were scheduled to attend a conference in Washington D.C. when their flight was canceled. When Lionel offered the LuthorCorp jet and Martha accepted, Lois brought up Lionel's possible feelings for Martha. They noticed the surroundings to be strange and Lois tried to get to the pilot to know what was going on. However, the pilot of the plane turned out to be Brainiac, who shut off the oxygen supply to the cabin causing Martha to pass out first. But Lois was able to open the emergency oxygen supply, but before she could get to them, she passed out as well. Lois and Martha's plane crashed near the Fortress of Solitude.
[edit] Season Six
"Ollie's a good kisser, don't get me wrong, but that Green Arrow, he could teach Ollie a thing or two." - Lois Lane to Clark Kent, not knowing he's the one she kissed, Hydro
Lois and Martha's plane crashed near the Fortress of Solitude. She awakened for a time while there, but later told Clark that she only vaguely remembered the structure and thought it was heaven. Clark told her that maybe she hallucinated, but she insisted that it was real. At the hospital, Clark expressed that he was glad she was okay and spontaneously grabbed her hand. It made Lois uncomfortable and she awkwardly pulled away.
Enamored, Oliver continued to woo her, and they began a relationship. When Oliver met Clark, he commented on Clark's "feelings" for Lois, which both Lois and Clark quickly brushed off. While attending a fund-raiser with Oliver, Lois witnessed the Green Arrow stealing a rare diamond necklace off Martha's neck and vowed to find the man behind the mask. She wrote an article about him, dubbing him the "Green Arrow Bandit." Later, she was captured by crooks who also wanted to know who the Green Arrow was and was rescued by the Green Arrow himself. Lois blamed him for her harrowing experience and was about to unmask him until Clark ensured Oliver a quick escape route. Later, she told Oliver that she would not give up until she unmasked Green Arrow. She told him that she considers the Green Arrow dangerous, making Oliver concerned and worried.
Lois went with Oliver to an alumni event for Excelsior Academy and was by Oliver's side when two of his childhood friends were brutally murdered by an unseen force. She worked with Clark to investigate the mysterious deaths, intending to write a story about it. However, when she learned that the culprit was the astral projection of paralyzed Duncan Allenmeyer, who had had experimental therapy, Lois abruptly stopped, as she thought it best not to write her story given the circumstances.
Tired of his disappearing acts, Lois decided to dump Oliver, who often left her alone to do his Green Arrow duties. Looking for Oliver, Lois encountered the Green Arrow, who threw her into a glass table and sent her to the hospital. Clark told Lois about Oliver's use of an intravenous drug, and Lois believed it explained his erratic behavior. Oliver quit taking the drug and asked Lois to take him back. She did, and they attended the Kent Thanksgiving dinner as a couple.
Lois paid Jimmy Olsen for possible footage of the Green Arrow. However, all Jimmy got was images of Green Arrow's arms and legs. Lois began to suspect Oliver was the Green Arrow and enlisted Clark's help to prove it. However, Clark and Oliver worked together to throw her off by having Clark wear Oliver's costume and end her suspicions. With Clark in Oliver's costume, they shared their first kiss, unknown to Lois. Clark's reaction to the kiss was unreadable.
Lois and Oliver's relationship continued until Lois confronted Oliver on his tendency to always disappear in the middle of their dates. Oliver tried to make it up to her by promising a romantic vacation. However, before their departure, Oliver backed out on the trip again due to his commitments to the Justice League and Lois declared that she would not be waiting for him. He told her that he wasn't planning on coming back to Metropolis and they parted ways in a tearful and emotional breakup.
At a Valentine's Day party at the Talon, Lois bought a lipstick containing a red kryptonite-based aphrodisiac and fell in love with the first man she saw: Clark. She showed up at Clark's house and gave him a homemade Whitesnake mix CD. She also got a temporary tattoo with his name on it on her breast. Additionally, she infected Clark, and as Kal, he made a flying leap from the rooftop of the Daily Planet building to Queen Tower with Lois in his arms. Kal told Lois that Oliver was the Green Arrow. They almost had sex until Kal saw the engagement invitation and decided to crash the party with Lois. Then she went with Kal to crash Lex and Lana's engagement party, but was heartbroken when Kal lost interest in her and left with Lana. She almost hurt Chloe because she thought that Chloe was jealous of her that Clark had feelings for her, then Jimmy Olsen sprayed her with the antidote and Lois lost the knowledge of the events. The next day Lois uncomfortably showed Clark the tattoo on her breast and vaguely tried to ask him if they slept together. Clark was amused by the whole situation. He didn't tell her the whole story, but he did show her the CD she made for him, and she was clearly embarrassed.
Lois was desperate for a story for the Inquisitor. While Chloe and Clark were investigating a lethal Internet fight club, she discovered the location of the club. When she arrived, she was caught by Athena and told her she was a stripper from a nearby strip club. Then she convinced her that she needed help and promised to leave her name at the front door, claiming she does a "killer stars and stripes routine". After she leaves, she takes pictures and gets caught by Athena. They engage in a fight and Lois is the victor, but is forced to fight after getting caught by Richtor Maddox at gunpoint. She is about to fight Clark by force but then Titan shows up, she is knocked unconscious.
When Lana Luthor was shot at the Daily Planet, Lois was determined to find out what she was trying to expose. She stole Lana's cigarette case from the crime scene and discovered a flash drive belonging to Lex. The drive contained a video of a meeting between Lex and Senator Ed Burke discussing Project Ares. However, Lionel Luthor guessed her involvement and took the flash drive from her. He warned her that whoever had targeted Lana wouldn't hesitate to do away with her as well. Lois confronted Senator Burke outside an alley and witnessed his murder by the invisible Wes Keenan. When he showed himself, Lois was shocked to recognize him as a childhood friend. The Kents suggested Lois stay on the farm for protection from Wes, but he located her anyway. However, their shared history caused Wes to disobey his orders to kill her and he apprehended her instead. With Lois' help, Wes was able to fend off his mind control long enough to explain what happened to him. Clark and Chloe tracked them down to an old military base and Clark was, able to save Wes from killing Lois, unseen. Wes died in Lois' arms, stating he'd rather be dead than used as a weapon, and repeating a string of numbers.Wes' death motivated Lois to get to the bottom of Project Ares, so she studied the numbers that Wes died repeating, until she realized they were latitude and longitude coordinates. She tracked it down to Reeves Dam, but when she got there, Lois was confronted by a guard who stabbed her in the stomach. Lois was able to call Chloe for help before she passed out. Chloe found Lois near death from blood loss and began to cry. Mysteriously, her tears healed Lois' stab wound and she recovered, horrified to find that Chloe was the one near death, and the dam crumbling, trapping them inside.
[edit] Season Seven
"Welcome to the Daily Planet." - Grant Gabriel, Kara
Lois encountered Philipe Lamont, the boy previously possessed by Bizarro while trying to escape the collapsed dam. Clark heard her calling for help and took all three to the hospital where the doctors tried to revive Chloe. Restless, Lois instructed Clark to stay with Chloe while she went to the Luthor Mansion to search for clues that pointed to Lex's involvement with the Project. There, she ran into Bizarro, who had taken Clark's form. Mistaking him for Clark, she was angered when he made a pass at her. Later, Lois deduced that "Clark"'s odd behavior was due to his grief over Lana Lang's reported death, and sincerely offered her condolences.
Lois was determined to investigate the dam and Clark went along to keep her out of trouble. He admitted to her that he intended to leave Smallville, just as they discovered a red spaceship. Lois took a picture with her cellular phone but as she reached out to touch the ship, she was thrown back by an unseen force. Clark protected her from a super-speeding blonde woman, who crushed Lois' phone and disappeared. Clark instantly recognized the woman to be Kryptonian and reluctantly took Lois home, thinking she needed to be seen by a doctor and trying to stop her investigation. Chloe was able to convince Lois to go to keep her occupied.
Lois visited Chloe at work at Daily Planet and tried to convince Chloe that she'd seen a UFO. The two were approached by the new editor, Grant Gabriel. Chloe tried to make a good first impression, but Grant stated that he thought she had lost her journalism spark, but that he saw great potential in Lois. He offered her a job if she could write a good story about her spaceship. Lois tracked the ship to a government facility; as she touched the ship she was thrown back by a powerful force. She wrote her story, but had no photograph to accompany it, so Grant declared that he would not publish it, but would still hire her at the Daily Planet.
Lois became Grant's ingenue, getting sent on prestigious and exciting out-of-town assignments. However, she was still interested in proving Lex Luthor's role in the Reeves Dam project. Against Grant's assignments, she chose to investigate the purchase of land close to the dam, authorized by someone with the initials "LL". She sneaked into LuthorCorp but was quickly caught and thrown out by Lex Luthor. Grant asked Lois to accompany him to a social function, but she turned him down. However, Lois and Grant became increasingly close. Lois was casually visiting Grant in his office when they were suddenly interrupted by Lana Lang, who had stolen evidence of Lex's projects and demanded they print the story. When Grant refused to do so, Lana assaulted him. Lois tried to fend her off and Lana threw her through a glass door, knocking her unconscious. At the hospital, Lois vowed to continue her quest to bring Lex down. She snuck out but was caught by Grant. He brought her flowers and tried to warn her off the Luthor story. Lois acknowledged their growing attraction, but she refused to back off. Lois was oblivious to the fact that Grant was, in fact, helping cover for the Luthors by destroying Lana's evidence.
Lois and Grant finally began a relationship while she continued to cover big stories for him. They were unwittingly seen making out by Chloe, who was furious that Lois would endanger her own career by having a relationship with Grant. She warned Lois to break up with Grant, and Lois attempted to do so, but ultimately, she and Grant agreed to continue their relationship but keep it a secret.
Lois was assigned to write an exposé on Lex Luthor. That same day at work, Lois received a call that directed her to turn the interview into an opportunity to prove Lex's guilt once and for all. The caller manipulated Lois into following out his orders by placing a bomb on Chloe and trapping her (and Jimmy Olsen) in a non-functioning elevator. The caller revealed himself to be Adrian Cross and told Lois he was a clone created by Lex. He directed her to enter the interview wired and armed, but she was unable to force a confession out of Lex before he knocked her unconscious. As a result, Lois missed the revelation that Grant Gabriel was a clone of Lex's dead infant brother. She wrote the story, but since Lex killed Cross, she had no proof of Cross' claims. Later, Gabriel visited Lois at her home. Sure she was going to be fired, Lois wanted to continue dating Gabriel, but he broke up with her.
Shortly afterward, Lois discovered Oliver Queen had returned to Metropolis and went to the Queen Tower to confront him. Oliver expected her arrival and prepared a romantic dinner. However, they were attacked by a female vigilante hired by Lex to kidnap Green Arrow. Lois learned that Oliver was Green Arrow, but she was held hostage. Clark and Chloe rescued her, and she tried to keep Oliver's identity a secret but was surprised to find out that they already knew. Before he left town again, Oliver asked if they might try to make it work, but Lois was unwilling. She later tearfully confessed to Clark that she loved him, but would not be able to handle his greater cause and would always resent being left behind. Clark offered his support and they exchanged a solemn hug.
Lois followed Lex when he managed to track Kara down to Detroit, Michigan. Lois and Kara were later held captive by the psychotic busboy Finley, but escaped and (unknowingly) were saved by Clark. Lois started researching about the death of Patricia Swann, with Jimmy Olsen as her sidekick. The two later went undercover as janitors to see how Lionel Luthor was involved. Lois and Jimmy later discovered that Lionel went to see Lana at the Isis Foundation, and they learned that Lex was behind the murder of Patricia, not Lionel.
As Clark and Chloe were working on a search for Brainiac, Lois rushed in to inform the two about Lionel Luthor committed suicide by jumping from his office window. Lois and Jimmy found a picture of Lionel being pushed from his office window. When they went to go to the Isis Foundation, they were caught by Lex’s assistant. Lois was shot for trying to stop her, and was placed in a freezer with Jimmy. Clark used his heat vision to keep them warm to prevent them from dying of hypothermia.
In an alternate reality where Clark never came to Earth, Lois was a star reporter at the Daily Planet and was working with Nancy Adams until she was arrested by Kara. She was saved by Clark and found herself attracted to him. She helped him get past the guards by pretending to be a reporter. In the original reality, she went with Clark for a drink to help him with Lana's condition.
Lois suggested Clark apply for an internship at the Daily Planet, saying that he's meant for more than farm work. He refuses the offer and tells her that he can never work for Lex Luthor. Then she asked him about his and Lex’s past friendship, but Clark just said that sometimes people don't turn out to be who you expect. She then began digging into Lex's excursions to the Arctic circle, but Jimmy was set up by Lex to throw her off the track. She believed Jimmy, but was still skeptical. Lois arrived at the Kent house just as Clark finished viewing a break-up video left for him by his girlfriend, Lana. She offered support by giving a devastated Clark a comforting hug.
[edit] Season Eight
"I guess I shouldn't call you Smallville anymore." - Lois Lane to Clark Kent after he reveals his secret, Infamous
Lois snuck into the Luthor Mansion, dressed as a maid, and looking for evidence of her cousin Chloe Sullivan's disappearance, but was immediately recognized by Lex's assistant, Tess Mercer, but not before stealing a thumb drive containing possible information about Chloe. She learned that Chloe was being held in a secret base in Montana and set about finding her. She unexpectedly ran into Clark Kent, who was present with Oliver Queen, also on a mission to save Chloe. They located Chloe, but Lois was tasered unconscious. Lois presumably made it home safely. She was working late when Clark unexpectedly arrived to tell her that he had taken her advice and decided to get a job at the Daily Planet.
Lois helped Clark on his first impressions to the boss, Tess Mercer, by telling him to change his clothes in a phone booth. Lois helped Clark investigate a bus crash outside the Planet building on his first day on the job. Lois used her own resources and Clark secretly used his super-powers to gain information. Together they discovered that Bette Sans Souci was the meteor freak that caused the bus to explode. Soon after, Lois wrote the story, earning herself a front-page headline.
She helped Davis Bloome to cure Oliver of his poison and told Davis to do whatever it takes to keep him alive. She wondered if she made the right decision to break up with Oliver. Tess told her to cover a story on Oliver but decided not to do the story about him because of his near death experience and her feelings for him that still exist.
Lois decided to team up with Clark on a story about a man who died of extremely high hormone levels. She was shocked to find Clark making out with a strange redhead. The woman then tried to kill Lois, thinking that she was competition for Clark's affection. Clark saved her, and later they had a discussion about soul mates. Clark asked her if she wanted to move back onto the farm, but she declined.
At Chloe and Jimmy's engagement party, Lois got drunk and embarrassed herself. Clark had to take her home. The next day, she and Clark realized that Chloe and Jimmy never returned home and teamed up to find them. She got the idea to pose with Clark as an engaged couple, even telling the story to Oliver Queen. Her plan was successful and she wound up being kidnapped by a psychotic jeweler, bent on making engaged couples tell the truth with a lie detector, which shocks the individual if he or she lies. The jeweler asked Lois if she was in love with Clark and determined it to be true. Clark was able to break free and save them both. Later at work, Lois tried to avoid Clark, then claimed that her true feelings could not be determined to be true because she removed the sensor.
Jimmy approached Lois about his developing story on a mysterious savior in Metropolis, but Lois was skeptical until she was saved by the savior, really Clark Kent. Tess Mercer knew that Lois had stolen a flash drive from her and sent a metahuman named Sebastian Kane to track her, then kill her. Kane posed as another Daily Planet reporter and he and Lois went on a date. Kane realized that Lois knew he was a killer after reading her using his ability and attacked her, but Clark once again saved her. Having been saved twice in two days, Lois declared that she would find the identity of the hero as well as have the first interview with the world wide hero.
Lois decided to take Clark up on his offer to move into the Kent Farm, but they were sucked into the Phantom Zone together due to the Crystal of Knowledge that returned to Clark through the mail. Clark was able to send Lois back with the help of Kara, but she was possessed by a phantom wraith, Faora Zod, who used Lois' body to first antagonize Tess, then locate her son, Davis Bloome. With the help of Kara Kent, Clark was able to restore Lois to normal and vanquish Faora from her body. She thought she had hallucinated the entire experience while she was in The Phantom Zone. Tess, in turn, assumed Lois had knowledge of Kryptonian things and gave her a raise at work. Lois was initially suspicious of the raise, but then decided not to question it. She changed her mind about living at the Kent Farm after all and can now afford her own place.
Lois was Chloe's Maid of Honor for her November wedding to Jimmy Olsen. She coordinated the wedding at Clark Kent's farm. Jimmy suggested Clark might be interested in her and that would be perfect for each other. Lois denied they had an attraction but seemed to flirt with him before the ceremony. She mistakenly believed he was reading Jimmy's wedding vows to her, but quickly covered up her reaction. However, during the wedding, Clark offered Lois a dance and they almost kissed due to the tension, but were interrupted by Chloe's surprised exclamation over Clark's ex-girlfriend Lana Lang's sudden arrival to the wedding. Lois became upset when Clark left to talk with Lana and left her alone. She confessed to Oliver Queen that she thought Clark might need her, saying she can't deny her feelings for him anymore and that she never felt this way about anyone before. Oliver assured her that it was possible something could happen between her and Clark because he knows Clark. When Chloe's wedding was interrupted by a horrible monster, Lois met Clark at the hospital with the rest of the victims. Extremely upset, Lois was unsure if Chloe would be returned safely but Clark promised that he would find her whatever it took. Lois accompanied a gravely-injured Jimmy Olsen to Star City while he received treatment. She told Clark she would stay there until she heard from Chloe again.
She was mentioned by the Legion of Super-Heroes when they told Clark that they heard of all of his friends except Chloe in their history books in the future. Later, Chloe goes to visit Jimmy and Lois at Star City to help them. She is also mentioned by Chloe when she tells Clark that she knows that Lois' has feelings for him and that Clark shouldn't hurt her.
Due to breaking his promise to be picked up from the airport, Lois was forced to take a cab back to the Daily Planet as she got out in the rain she berated Clark for not being there for her when she needed him. Still angry, she refused to listen to his story about being the Red Blue Blur, until she witnessed him demonstrate his super strength. Once she had all the details, Lois agreed to do his story, which gave her a promotion from the editor. Once Linda turned the world against Clark, Lois was later ambushed by the authorities to question her about her connection to Clark. Clark rescued her and took her back to the barn, then told her his plan to go back time using the Legion ring, which she regretted because she will not be told of his secret. When Clark changed the future by stopping Linda, he was able to pick her up from the airport this time and she told Clark that if he wanted to talk about their almost kiss at the wedding, he could meet her at a coffee shop. Clark considered it but ultimately wound up not showing up.
Lois attended Chloe's birthday, gave her a birthday cupcake and announced to Chloe that she was going to Mexico to cover a huge lead story. While Lois was in Mexico uncovering a story, Chloe called her to see if anything extraordinary happen to her, as Chloe became Lois herself. As it turned out, Lois still had her own body. After she returned from Mexico, she questioned Clark on when he realized Chloe wasn't her and wanted to see the framed copies of her rules that Chloe told her about. Soon after, she told Clark that she was going on a date with a guy she met on her trip and that when Clark asks if he should call if anything comes up, she points out that he stood her up already, and that they should stick to business from now on.
Lois tries to attend the journalistic achievements that was being held in Metropolis. However she instead is arguing with a officer outside who claims to have never heard of Lois Lane before in her life. Lois says she works at the Daily Planet but the officer still won't let her in despite that fact and told her to leave. Chloe arrives to pick her up and tells Lois that she will give her a lift while the two cousins are walking to Chloe's car. Lois complains that she hasn't had a big story in a while and the Red-Blue Blur didn't answer her public calling for a interview with him. Chloe tries to comfort her cousin by being supportive to her and that she was a good reporter.
When Lois' stiletto shoes begin to hurt her feet, Lois says she will catch up and tells Chloe to go on ahead. Lois begins taking them off when suddenly she hears Chloe's screams for help and is being mugged by AJ and Bruno Mannheim. Lois comes to the rescue by beating up the thugs in her Stiletto boots before kicking AJ down when Bruno escapes with Chloe bag containing her laptop that held important information on the Justice League. AJ is unable to see Lois' face who is covered in the shadows and then he asks if she's some kind of new superhero.
Inspired to meet and befriend the Red Blue Blur, Lois created the super-heroine Stiletto after her encounter with the thugs. She made the black, vinyl costume and used martial arts as her way of getting around as The Stiletto if she actually had to fight criminals. She asked for Jimmy's help by taking pictures of her as The Stiletto, and when she went patrolling for crime, she couldn't believe that the red blue blur beat her to the crime by seeing the criminal beaten in an alley. When Clark asks if she is The Stiletto, she believes he is the red blue blur, but is disappointed that it's just Clark (unknown that they are one and the same). She tries to cover her identity but Clark can see that it's Lois. Having to explain her reasons, Lois tells Clark that she didn’t just want a story from the Red Blue Blur, but for him to have a friend to talk to. Then she goes see Chloe and admits that she is The Stiletto and asks her if she is alright. Soon after, she saved Jimmy and Clark from Ron Milano, and when she was about to get hit by a bullet, Clark stepped in and saved her while weakened by kryptonite, which devastated her. After she defeats them, she along with Jimmy helps Clark to the hospital to treat his gunshot wound. The next morning, Lois gives Clark a big breakfast for saving her life and getting him involved with The Stiletto, then she told him that Stiletto is gone for good and then takes his pastry in a flirtatious way. Later, Lois received a message from the Red Blue Blur asking to finally talk at a phone booth, she questions if he really is the red blue blur, so he super speeds a newspaper article to her feet and that convinced her that he is who he is, then she asked him an in-depth question of what he needed besides saving the world because she wanted to be his friend too. Then Lois suggest a new super-hero name for the red blue blur. The Red Blue Blur tells Lois that if anyone can do it, she can and that when he's ready to tell the world who he really is, she'll be the first to know.
She talks to Clark about finding Chloe and Davis, and when she tries to see what he's writing on the computer that seems more important than finding Chloe, he clears the screen before she could see it. When Clark leaves, the phone rings and she answers, knowing it's the Red Blue Blur. He tells her that he's looking for Chloe and that she needs to publish his goodbye letter if something were to happen to him, implying he might die. Lois says that she thought he was invincible and then he tells her so did he. Then she requests that they meet each other by the phone booth at midnight but he didn't think it was a good idea.
Soon after, she breaks into Tess' office to use her computer but found it encrypted and finds Jimmy there as well. Jimmy hacks Tess' computer and uses her tracking system to find Chloe and Davis at Edge City. When Jimmy leaves to go get them, Lois continues looking through the computer and finds a video in Tess' files of Tess torturing Regan Matthews about an Orb that is alien tech and could potentially destroy all of mankind. When she leaves Tess' office to go find Chloe, Tess confronts Lois and accuses her of stealing the orb from her, saying she needs it to save the world. Lois sarcastically agrees and when she tries to leave to find Chloe, even saying she could fire her if she wanted to, Tess stops her from leaving and attacks her. Lois fights back and the struggle takes a turn to Clark's desk, knocking over his belongings. Then Lois emerges victorious, having knocked Tess out and finding the Legion ring on the floor after knocking over Clark's things and when she goes to pick it up, it activated and transported her away to an unknown time period. Later, Clark looks for her not knowing what happened and couldn't find her anywhere.
[edit] Appearances
- Season Four, Season Five, Season Six, Season Seven, Season Eight: Episodes featuring Lois Lane
- Lois was first mentioned by Chloe in the Season 3 episode Delete. In the episode, Chloe reveals that Lois is her cousin. Lois doesn't make an appearance until Season 4's Crusade.
- Even though she is a main character, Lois does not appear in every episode because Erica Durance is contracted to do about 13 episodes per season. Durance stated that this would increase for Season Eight, but her appearances actually dipped to 12, rather than her regular 13, for unknown reasons.[15] [16]
[edit] Trivia
- Lois often calls Clark by the nickname of 'Smallville' which was first introduced by Lois during "Superman: the Animated Series" and was later picked up by the comics.
- Lois' age is of some debate. She implies her age to be 21 in Gone, meaning she was about five when the first meteor shower hit Smallville and is currently 26. However, it is assumed that when she was introduced, she had just finished high school. Additionally, series creator Al Gough indicated in interviews that she was 19,[17] meaning she is currently 24. (see the talk page for details.)
- Lois began smoking when she was 15, but she had quit by the time she arrived in Smallville (although she was then addicted to nicotine gum instead). Currently, she seems to have kicked both habits.
- Lois' mother might have died of lung cancer; when Clark expresses his condolences, she remarks that it's not anybody's fault her mother started smoking in high school. [citation needed]
- Lois drove a silver GMC Envoy, and then a 2005 red Ford Fusion. In Bizarro, she drove a 2007 Toyota Camry. In 2008, she was driving a red Pontiac, which was crushed by Maxima in Instinct. She was next seen entering a silver convertible. (Committed).
- Lois is a poor speller, typist and cook. [18]
- Lois dislikes the color pink. [citation needed]
- Lois, while possessed by Dawn Stiles, was Clark's prom date.
- Lois is highly allergic to dogs and cats.[19]
- Lois is a third-degree black belt, although she is nearly always defeated when engaged in combat. [citation needed]
- Lois was saved twice from drowning: once by Clark Kent and once by Arthur Curry.
- Lois is an avid fan of the rock band Whitesnake and Def Leppard.[20]
- Lois is left-handed. [21]
[edit] Notes
- Lois has been possessed by Brianna Withridge, Dawn Stiles and Faora.
- Lois was the first known human to be trapped in the Phantom Zone, although she believed it was a hallucination.
- Lois has seen Clark's powers in Blank, Crimson and Infamous but she has forgotten the events all three times. Lois in an alternate reality knew about Clark's powers in Apocalypse and then Clark went back in time in Infamous to prevent people from finding out his secret (including Lois).
- In an alternate reality of a dream by Jimmy Olsen, Lois was a sultry singer having an affair with Lex Luthor. In another reality in which Clark Kent never came to earth, she was a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist.
- Lois has had a relationship with both Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) and Arthur Curry (Alan Ritchson). In other media she has had relationships with Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne.

[edit] In the Comics
Lois is Superman's chief romantic interest and, in the current DC Comics continuity, his wife. Like Superman’s alter ego Clark Kent, she is a reporter for the Daily Planet. Depictions of Lois Lane have varied in the nearly 70-year history of Superman comic books and other media adaptations.
In the current DC continuity, unlike the series, Lois never met Clark Kent before his arrival in Metropolis. Upon Superman's debut, she became highly infatuated with the Man of Steel and simply saw Clark as a foppish, clumsy co-worker. Eventually, she decided to date Clark, seemingly losing her infatuation for Superman, replacing it with serious love for her boyfriend. Clark proposed to her and she gladly accepted. Not long after this, Clark revealed his identity to her. In the comic books she and Clark adopted Lor-Zod, General Zod and Ursa's son, which Lois names "Christopher Kent". In a heroic move, Chris sacrificed himself to bring the escaped criminals invading the Earth back to the Phantom Zone. Lois and Clark have been searching for a way to bring him back ever since, recently Lois discovered Chris has aged into adulthood in a matter of months and became the new Metropolis superhero Nightwing.
Lois is always a tough-as-nails journalist and intellectual equal to Superman. Although there is no guarantee that Smallville will adhere to any Superman storyline, recent hints have been placed that she could end up with Clark.
Lois has shown she can fight for herself when she was trapped alongside Catwoman and the two managed to escape. Her other dealings with the Birds of Prey involved a tense standoff when she threatened to out Barbara Gordon as Oracle, and Barbara in turn threatened to reveal her husband's secret identity as Superman. Lois stood down.
In the recent and very controversial Decisions mini series, it's revealed that Lois doesn't know Clark's personal politics. Though it does allude that with her military background, she is a Republican, although she has been shown to have liberal leanings in regards to certain social issues.
