Phantom wraith

From Smallville Wiki

The wraith Bizarro on Earth

A Phantom wraith (also known as a Phantom or Wraith) is a non-corporeal being from the Phantom Zone.

Wraiths appear to usually be non-corporeal versions of Kryptonians, although some are non humanoid (e.g. Bizarro was a Kryptonian lab experiment).

The Phantoms are criminals sent to the Phantom Zone with their physical bodies destroyed for major crimes. Resembling wraiths, the bodiless phantoms roam the Zone at will, attacking with little warning. Though primarily insubstantial they are able to cut, and even grab, their victims (Zod). Outside of the Zone they have not been shown to have any substance, however they are able to possess a host at will. Once they do so the host body gains any abilities the phantom may have had in its original form. However these powers vanish once a phantom leaves, or is forced out, of the individual they are possessing (Zod, Fallout, Bloodline). Phantoms can be forcibly removed from a host using a Crystal of El or a similar device.

[edit] Phantom Zone

(See main article: Phantom Zone)
The Phantom Zone is an alternate dimension used as a prison for the worst Kryptonian and alien criminals. Many of the prisoners exiled to the Zone were captured by the Martian Manhunter when he worked as a bounty hunter for Jor-El. The Phantom Zone is a like a polar region where the sun never sets, casting an eternal blue-gray light. Phantoms roam freely, able to attack at will, and the inhabitants are violent and angry. Time has no meaning there, and anyone exiled to the Zone does not age.

[edit] Known Wraiths

[edit] Physical Appearance

Wraiths appear as flying characters shrouded in a tattered gray clothing and a spiritual body underneath.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

Wraiths have the following powers:

  • Flight - Wraiths can fly, both in the Phantom Zone and on Earth.
  • Possession - Wraiths appear to be able to possess humans and Kryptonians. [1]

While possessing a human or Kryptonian, wraiths appear to have the full suite of powers they would normally have in corporeal form; for example, a Kryptonian wraith would gain his or her full Kryptonian powers and abilities.

[edit] Vulnerabilities

Kryptonian wraiths can be drawn out of their possessed hosts using a Crystal of El; this presumably either destroys them or returns them to the Phantom Zone. They are also vulnerable to J'onn J'onzz's Red crystal

The Crystal of El was not effective against the wraith known as Bizarro who destroyed it.

[edit] Season Six

When Clark was sent to the phantom zone, he was attacked by numerous phantoms who was then rescued by Raya using a device to scare the wraiths away. As Raya nutured Clark back to health she told him the true nature of the phantoms and that the only thing they fear is Jor-El's Crystal of El, which was the device she used early to save Clark from the phantoms. When Clark escpaed the zone and confronted Lex/Zod, he used his father's crystal to remove Zod's essense from Lex's body and back into the phantom zone.

Clark battled a phantom called Baern who possessed a young boy adn tracked Clark down to Smallville where he was at first defeated but drained Brainiac's hard drive of its power to fule himself to defeat Clark and a visiting Raya. They dueled at the Fortress of Solitude where Baern killed Raya but was captured in the Crystal of El.

Dr. Hudson was a wraith who attacked Clark adn entered his mind to take his body but Martian Manhunter appaeared and helped Clark battle Hudson in his mind using his telepathy and captured Dr Hudson with his Red crystal.

Bizarro used numerous human vessels and was being tracked by Lex and also Martian Manhunter and Lionel who was working together. Martian Manhunter attempted to capture Bizarro but was severley injured and fled as Lex arrived but Bizarro fled as well. He entered a boy who Lex captured and Clark came to find Lex and Bizarro left the boy and copied Clark and was immune to his crystal destroying it.

[edit] Season Eight

Kara Kent was sent to the Phantom Zone by Brainiac after he used her to get back to Krypton in 1986. There, she encoutered numerous wraiths and battled the wraith formerly known as Faora who escaped when Kara was letting a trapped Lois Lane out while Clark stood guard and battled wraiths to allow Lois to escape. Faora was later captured by Kara using a powerless J'onn J'onn's crystal.
