- Popular comics writer Geoff Johns (Legion) returns for a story featuring the Justice Society of America - a team that preceded the Justice League by a generation. Sources: KryptonSite)
- The Justice Society "will be heroes that come out of 'retirement' to see how the current generation operates."
- The Justice Society returns "to give these screwed up guys of the next generation a needed smack-down," Geoff Johns says.
- Hawkman and Green Arrow don't get along.
- Lois Lane does not appear in this episode.
- Writer Geoff Johns has confirmed rumors, that the episode has been broken into two parts. He will write both Society and Legends.
- Casting Call has gone out for Amanda Waller who debuts in this episode as the villain.
- New Hawkman spoilers from Michael Shanks at the Huffington Post: "Hawkman being the alpha in the Justice Society, being someone who...has made some missteps along the way, can or could represent a type of mentor character to Clark in his leadership abilities with his burgeoning team members of the Justice League. He represents a character that has a lot of wisdom to pass down to this next generation, so there is a strong possibility that once the initial phase wears off that there will be a coming together of those two to paint a larger portrait of the future, of what Clark has available to him and what his options are," he says.
- About Doctor Fate: "There's a really neat relationship between he and Hawkman that makes the first episode quite heart-wrenching. There are aspects of it that are heart-wrenching as a result of that relationship. And I thought that was a very cool aspect of the first episode."
- In an interview with Michael Shanks in the magazine, several tidbits are revealed: We'll see Hawkman flying into Watchtower and onto the Daily Planet roof.
- Hawkman has a big bronze chest plate.
- This version of Hawkman is a "reincarnated prince" from thousands of years ago. He now works in a museum as Carter Hall.
- The Justice Society was active in the 1970's but they had since disbanded.
- There are a lot of memories and paraphernalia that "viewers will be familiar with."
- Carter doesn't know what to make of Chloe, and Lois's role will have something to do with the romance and "Tess's dark plotting."
- Some trust issues with Martian Manhunter "have to be dealt with,
- Dr. Fate has a helmet which can predict the future and can teleport.
- Hawkgirl will be referenced and we will learn where she is now.
- Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello has revealed that the 2-part Smallville Justice Society "movie" is now being called "Absolute Justice."
- The episode will have flashbacks tha will reveal some of the other members of the Justice (ie this is when we see Sandman, Green Lantern etc) and these will be on how the Justice Society broke up and the ramifications.
- Some Justice Society members know who "Watchtower" really is before they are told.
- There is a super-villain in this episode which has not yet been revealed.
- Sometime before this episode Chloe gets a non-Watchtower job offer.

- The title refers to The Justice Society of America, or JSA, a DC Comics superhero group, the first team of superheroes in comic book history that preceded the Justice League by a generation.

- This marks the first live action appearance of Amanda Waller. She has previously portrayed by voice-actress CCH pounder in Justice League Unlimited and the animated movie: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.
- This also marks the first live-action appearances of Dr. Fate, and Stargirl.
- This will be the second Live-action appearance of Hawkman. The first being the Legends of the Superheroes TV Specials in 1979, portrayed by Bill Nuckols.
- The "Society" 2-hour movie event will be airing on February 5, 2010, a week later than what was previously revealed.
- The two Justice Society of America centric episodes "Society" and "Legends" 2-hour movie event has now been given an official movie title Smallville: Absolute Justice.

- This will be the third team of superheroes who have appeared on Smallville, the first being Oliver Queen's pro-active hero team, and later the Legion of Super-Heroes.
