[edit] Capitilization

  • I don't think the word "the" is part of the paper's name. It is not on the masthead of the actual paper as part of the name, so when mentioned, I'm pretty sure it should be uncapitilized and un-italicized. ex- the Daily Planet, not The Daily Planet. But I'm finding conflicting sources: [1], [2]. Thoughts? Marikology
I've always spelled it without the "the" capitalized. More importantly, the word is omitted on the masthead on the show, and I've always been a proponent of whatever is seen or heard on the show is law. It doesn't matter if it's capitalized or not in other media. If it's not capitalized on the show, it shouldn't be on the article either. --Vinny2 19:05, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the input. I agree with sticking to what we see on the screen. I will try to remember to fix it on pages when I edit pages. Marikology 23:41, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Grant Gabriel Editor in Chief?

Do we have it on authority as to whether Grant is an Assistant Editor or Editor in Chief?

TV Guide says that "The new character of Grant Gabriel, Lois's Daily Planet editor, will have more than a professional interest in Lois." It doesn't say that he's *the* editor of the Daily Planet. And yet, check out this video where Allison Mack says that he's "the Editor of the Daily Planet": http://weblogs.wgntv.com/network/cwsource/2007/10/exclusive_smallvilles_cast_tal.html --Kanamekun 19:04, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm watching Blue right now.
Chloe: Sooner or later, people are going to start scratching, assuming one thing. Lois Lane jump-started her career on her managing editor's die-hard battery.
I think it's safe to call him a managing editor in the Daily Planet. Flash0816 01:30, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Ooh, awesome find! And btw, haha... only Chloe would use "die-hard battery" as a euphemism! Her dialogue used to drive me crazy, but now I love it! It's so "Chloe" :-) --Kanamekun 02:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DP in scenes

Think it'd be helpful to compile a list of the various times that the Daily Planet has been used as a setting for Smallville scenes?

Offhand, I can think of the following eps (and here are some more [3])

  • Reckoning, where Clark visits Chloe twice as he goes back in time and saves Lana.
  • Vengeance, where the new intern is the Angel of Vengeance
  • Noir, where Jimmy gets hit on the head and imagines a film noir Planet
  • The various episodes where Lois is shown working for Grant
  • The various episodes where Chloe is in the basement, using the Planet resources to do research for Clark (a lot like how she used the Torch).
  • Wrath, where Lana trashes Lois when she has Clark's powers

Basically the Daily Planet seems to be used in three main ways:

  • The Daily Planet is the scene for episodes where investigative journalism drives the plot
  • It's Chloe's base of operations where she does research when she and Clark are saving the world
  • It's the second home away from home for Chloe and Lois, who both date co-workers there

Anything missing, before I adapt a version of this for the page?

[edit] Ep names

I added some episode names, in the same format as the ones that were already there, but will it read better if they were worked into the narrative? Either way, it should be one way or the other. Marikology 19:54, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Screenshots of the Daily Planet

There was a great picture of Jimmy's picture on the Daily Planet frontpage. What do you think of using that as the picture for the Daily Planet article? --Kanamekun 08:12, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Get to know your Planet"

The infobox had the unsourced slogan "Get to know your Planet" in there, which I looked up. It appears to be from the movies, so I removed it. But I wanted to be sure, so wanted to open up a discussion. Anyone seen this slogan on the show? Maybe it was on one of the frontpages with Jimmy's pictures on it, or something. --Kanamekun 19:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I've never seen or heard that on the show. Marikology 14:39, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] should we add cat grant, ron troupe, steve lombard to the comics section

Ron troupe was mentioned in the episode Identity where clark was reading the newspaper article, Steve Lombard was supose to be a part of requiem but something happened and they are all important parts of the comics now

I think Ron Troupe deserves a mention as he has been mentioned on the show. The others might warrant a mention in the comics section, but they are not really relevent to the show at this point, so I don't think a lot of extensive detail would be useful. Marikology 22:11, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Article Dec 2008-Feb 2009

The Daily Planet is one of Metropolis's oldest [citation needed] and most respected newspapers. Its headquarters are located at 1000 Broadway in Metropolis, Kansas next door to LuthorCorp Plaza and across the street from the Ace of Clubs As of 2005, Pauline Kahn was the Editor-in-Chief. Its slogan is "Straight from the Source."

In 2007, Lex Luthor revealed that he had purchased the Daily Planet (Gemini). He has already started to exert editorial control over the paper. He hand-picked Lois Lane to write a flattering exposé about him, but when she instead threatened to detail his numerous crimes, he killed the story. (Gemini) He monitors email and data communication of his employees. (Hero) He also fired several staff members, including Chloe Sullivan after she lied to him about a key that Lionel had left for her. (Descent) It is unclear if the Daily Planet's reputation will survive his ownership.

The Daily Planet building's most distinguishing and famous feature is the enormous globe that sits on top of the building. The Planet accepts four high school students as summer interns from the state.
