The following line has been added to the article several times tonight: "But in the first episode of season five he wrote a note to Lana "You owe me one L" in the newspaper. So, he might still be alive."

I just watched that episode (Arrival) to make sure I didn't misremember. I saw the handwritten note in question; it was scrawled next to an article clearly entitled, "Socialite and son killed". Since Lex took care of the body after Lana killed Genevieve Teague, I thought it was fairly clearly implied that the note was from Lex.
