[edit] Less vs. Fewer

Hey, I changed the statement "less years of experience" to "fewer years of experience" under Kara's powers and abilities section. Here's a link that explains the simple rule: http://www.llrx.com/columns/grammar2.htm --TrumpetManLA 17:20, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rename page

Should this page be renamed Kara Zor-El or Kara El? I'm not sure how family names work for Kryptonians. Or does her first name suffice? Marikology 22:49, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I would like that simply to remove the confusion between the character and the episode name. This way the episode article name can go without the "(episode)" to match nearly every other episode article title. LanaIsDead 23:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Done. I think it's safe to assume that her full name will be Kara Zor-El. --DarkKnight 06:01, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
OK I switched the episode to the Kara page so we don't have to have the (episode) on it. I try to avoid it but sometimes they don't get very creative with the epi titles... (I had to delete it first so it would move the history and everything too.) I think I switched all the redirects. Marikology 06:47, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
After "Blue", I dont' think "it's safe to assume that her full name will be Kara Zor-El" at all. The Smallville writers have apparently declined to use the (largely Earth-1) comics' tradition of a female Kryptonian's last name being her father's full name. This article's name should be changed to Kara (Kryptonian), Kara (House of El) or Kara (character) — though the last option may cause confusion with Lindsey Harrison. If an episode of "'Smallville has identified her as "Kara Zor-El", I've certainly missed it. CzechOut | 00:08, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
She's named Kara Zor-El because they have established that to be her father's name and apparently, in the comics, that's how they roll on Krypton. But I would really rather not have the page of a main character have the parentheses-- they make searching impossible unless you get the spacing exactly right. I say just change it to Kara Kent since she has been called this onscreen, and it kinda keeps inline with naming characters by their "Earth-names" (like the superheroes) Marikology 00:48, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree with the above, she has never been referred to as Kara Zor-El. I think the page should just be renamed Kara Kent. She is referred to as Kara Kent on Smallville on numerous occasions. Flash0816 16:39, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Then why the name of Martian Manhunter is John Jones??? John is just a Comic book name. Nobody has ever call hem John in Smallville! Answer this question. BatteryB7 17 November 2007
Wow, that's actually a great point. I'll rewatch the episodes he's in to confirm this. If true, we should definitely rename his page. --Kanamekun 21:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree, his original page was Martian Manhunter, it was changed to John Jones because all the superheroes are listed as their real names on the wiki. However, MM doesn't seem to have any sort of Earthly persona, so a reasonable discussion can be opened to change his page to what he's been referred to in the show. In this case, if he has never been called John Jones, we will have to choose between wiki convention and the source material, but I will always vote for what they said on the show.Marikology 23:17, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Well Kara Kent is just a fake name. Its not her birth name. Well not like Kal-El and Clark Kent because Clark has been raised to call hemself as Clark Kent. I think we should name this article to Kara Zor-El because that is the closest match. BatteryB7 21 November 2007
I agree that it is likely that her Kryptonian name is Kara Zor-El, (which is why it is mentioned on the page,) but the show has not established that Kryptonian women take their father's name as a last name, so the page should reflect how she is referred to on the show. It's similar to why Jimmy Olsen's page is named "Jimmy Olsen" and not "James Olsen"-- that might be his birth name, but his character's name is Jimmy, so so is his page. If at any time Kara is referred to as Kara Zor-El on the show, we will rename the page (again). Marikology 19:04, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Absorbing explosion of Red Ship

How did Kara absorb the explosion of the red ship? I don't remember that being one of the Kryptonian superpowers... --Kanamekun 20:01, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

I think she just shielded it with her body using her power of invulnerability. --Dokuma 20:49, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] How did Kara get placed in the Phantom Zone?

As far as I can tell, there are two possibilities:

  • Kara made it back from Krypton, but Brainiac had somehow infected her. He was able to reform on Earth, and then send her into the Phantom Zone. This would explain why Kara was in so much pain when she dropped the milk; Brainiac was inside of her.
  • Kara never made it back from Krypton. At some point on the planet Krypton, Brainiac imprisoned Kara in the Phantom Zone. The Kara that we saw on Krypton was actually a replica of Brainiac, made to look like Kara. This is why "Kara" was able to pick up the big rock on Krypton to seemingly kill Brainiac. It also means that Kara has been in the Phantom Zone for almost 20 years.

What do you think - which one is it? Or is there another possibility? --Kanamekun 21:01, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I am not yet determined which of the two possibilities is more convincing:
  • 1) If Brainac somehow managed to infect Kara on Krypton, it would be kind of pausible that he was able to hurt her from inside. I could imagine that he downloaded his brain patterns into Kara's body and left it on Earth (ever heard of the "black oil"?)
  • 2) Kara never made it back from Krypton. I don't think that "Kara" was a replica of Brainiac cause the real Kara attacked him even before Clark showed up (and why would Brainiac try to stop himself?). I assume that Brainiac somehow managed to overpower Kara (in the nick of time) before she could smash his skull with the big rock and then sent her into the Phantom Zone just before Baby Kal-El's spaceship took off into space. He simultaneously posed as Kara and persuaded Clark that (s)he killed Brainiac. --Dva 20:35, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Kara was probably trapped in 1989, but she jumped forward in time, from that year to the present, as shown in Arctic (she went out from the time vortex). Today she has past little time in the phantom zone, not 20 years (I don't think she has spent the whole time in the mirror). Supergirl has to remain younger than Superman.

What I thought was that the real Kara came back with Clark, but Brainiac hadn't been distroyed on Krypton (as they thought) so he attacked her in the milk scene and then trapped her and took her place. IndridCold 20:40, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Maybe Brainiac programmed himself to thought that he was the actual Kara so Clark would not noticed the difference. Then the Brainiac-programing kick in when "Kara" was drinking milk. BatteryB7 21:08, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Season 8

Been looking around trying to find some information here on why she seems to have been written off and can't find anything. Is she off the show for good now? Is she gonna guest star like Lana or Lex might this season? And why hasn't there been any nod to her in the current season, i.e., Clark wondering where she is. --Dokuma 20:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

I think there's some stuff about it on the Season 8 page! (We try and keep character pages spoiler free). Kara should be back for at least one episode :-). --Kanamekun 21:00, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
