Talk:Lois Lane

[edit] Lois' age
It's widely assumed that since Lois was beginning her first year at Met U in Season 4, she was one year older than Chloe. However, dialogue indicates that she was probably about 21 then and closer to 24 or 25 currently. In 4X02, Gone, Lois indicates that her mother died when she was six, and her father had been alone for the past 15 years.
- Lois: I guess when he lost my mom, he kind of cracked, and... ever since, he's been scared of losing me too. I can actually talk about it. She died when I was six.
- Clark: I'm sorry.
- Lois: Don't be. Unless you're the one that got her hooked on cigarettes behind the gym during high school. Make yourself useful.
- Clark: "Nellie Bly"?
- Lois: I know. Can you believe after 15 years, my dad is finally getting some action? I'm kind of happy for the old geezer.
This contradicts the assumption that she was kicked out of Met U for underage drinking, but the exact dialogue of this event, in Recruit merely says she was "punted out of the university," and "busted for the booze, and well... that wasn’t the first time I’ve been invited to the disciplinary board’s kangaroo court." The term "underage" is not specifically used. Hence, there has been no onscreen indication other than the conversation in Gone to pinpoint Lois' age. If one knows of any, please leave it here. They are clearly implying that Lois is entering college after graduating high school, at the age of 18, almost 19. There is no reason to believe otherwise. Assuming this is the case, she would've been 19, almost 20, in season 5. Maggie Sawyer assumes in Exposed that Lois is underage (since alcohol is served the the Windgate), and Chloe and Clark don't deny it, but instead look at Sawyer as if this were the case. Why would the writers bother to have Sawyer bring up Lois' underage status like this, if not to confirm that she is only a year older than Clark, Chloe, and Lana, as evidenced by the fact that she is only one school year ahead of them? She is currently 22 going on 23. Gone is the first time we even get an inkling as to what her age might be, and this is retconned in the very next episode. All occurrences of correcting her age happen after Gone. The evidence of Facade, Recruit, and Exposed far outweigh the singular Gone.
- Maggie Sawyer assumes. And her dialogue with the General in Facade does not indicate her age any more than the dialogue from Recruit. I agree that there is a discrepancy and possible retcon, but this is an encyclopedia-- if it is a matter of a definite statement of her age, versus an assumption in all other episodes, the definite statement is more credible. That is why the bullet point directs the visitor to the talk discussion so that he or she can draw their own conclusion. Marikology 05:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
One can debate when Lois said 15 years, if Lois was being literal(ie. it has been exactly 15 years) or figurative(ie. giving a rough estimation and rounding the number up or down). One can also can question if Lois' Mom was giving the General some "action" till the day she died(when Lois was 6). For all we know Lois' mom was sick for the last 2-3 years of her life. For both these reason we can't say that Lois was making a "definite statement".--EDFan 06:47, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
From Al Gough's TV Guide Interview just before season 4, Al cleary states she is 19. I personally think this is as definite a statement we will every get save Lois or somebody else mention her age on the show. Considering Al's position on the show at the time it was said, it is most logical answer to the question, although no solid proof has been given on the show one way or another.(on a personal note I remember a few interviews given before Lois came on the show stating Lois being a year older then Clark, this article was the easiest to dig up)

TVGO: Do Lana and Lois meet and have a catfight over Clark?
Gough: Actually, they get along great, much to the consternation of Clark. [Laughs] He and Lois don't get along. She's not the Lois from the comics or movies or other TV shows. She's a 19-year-old Army brat. Her father, Gen. Sam Lane (Michael Ironside), is a Great Santini type who's running a military base outside Smallville. He gets involved with the Luthors.--EDFan 06:41, 8 January 2009
- I appreciate the citation, and the addition to the discussion, but the fact remains that it conflicts with the dialogue. I know there is ambiguity, which is what the page states. Since our evidence of Lois' age contradicts, the only thing we can do is provide all the sources we have, including the interview you mentioned, for the site visitor, and let them draw their own conclusion. Appreciate the citation, and while Marikology seems to be stuck on the one comment in Gone as Lois' overall age, the show has kept up with the ideal that Lois was 18/19 by the time she arrived, and was just about to start college. And now we have Gough backing up, it should be enough.
- It's not something I'm "stuck on", it's what was said on the show. Contrary to your claim, the show has not kept up with the idea-- it has simply not addressed it ever, which lies the debate. I would also like to point out that the original casting call for Lois (written by show producers) stated she was in her early twenties. http://www.kryptonsite.com/lois.htm Marikology 06:44, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Does it count?
I hat to open this can of worms, but does anyone think Lois should get into the "Temporarily Metahuman" category for the time she was Lowitch? Lana is already there for unrelated events, and Chloe is now full-time, so Lois is the only one posessed in Spell that would need to be added to the category-- if the consensus is that the Witches Three count as metahuman. Does spellcasting count as an innate ability? Or is it a learned skill? Does possession qualify the posessee as well as the possessor? Answers unclear, ask again later. --Noclevername 03:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I guess Lois was a witch, so she was temporarily metahuman. Did we ever see her actually cast spells though? If not, then maybe we can not put here in that category on that technicality... --Kanamekun 03:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Lois Personality
Was thinking about adding something like this: "Lois is willing to do anything to get the story, including lying, giving a bribe, trespassing, and breaking and entering."
But I've been watching "Lois & Clark" lately, and I can't remember which Lois is which :-). Anyone have examples of Lois lying, bribing, and/or trespassing? --Kanamekun 03:14, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
. . .we see her lying and tresspassing for getting the story at the episode plastique(recordind clark without telling him and stealing files from the hospital)
[edit] Appearances section
There's been some deletion and re-adding of the Appearances section. Rather than hash it out in the history comments, I thought we might open up a discussion here. Thoughts? --Kanamekun 12:40, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Her appearances are listed in a category and linked in the plot summary. They don't need to be a separate section. It just adds clutter to an already extensive page. Marikology 15:44, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Relationships
Lois and Lana-- Does this relationship meet notability? Do they have enough scenes, shared plotlines, or influence on each other to make a whole page? I am open to suggestions but I don't believe so. Marikology 15:10, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Star reporter
If Lois is really a star reporter why is she still working at the basement? Just wondering... BatteryB7 19:59, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
My personall beleif is that since Smallville is about origins, Lois is still growing into her own. I don't think that she will really earn that title untill she does what makes her famous. That's one word to describe what her furture is, SUPERMAN.
[edit] "Transported to unknown time period"?
The infobox claims we don't know when Lois is. However, in the sneak peek clip of the ninth season, it shows that she is mysteriously three weeks ahead of (what she believed to be) present day. So, wouldn't it be fitting to say she's 3 weeks in the future? --RedBlueBlur 16:07, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
- No, that's a spoiler. - BatteryB7 16:39, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
- BatteryB7 is right. We don't edit based on previews or spoilers. Marikology 17:04, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Season 9 section
The character pages are meant to be very high level summaries. The Season 9 section needs to be dramatically shortened in length... the detailed summaries can go into the episode page. :-)
Seriously - if the summary can't be shortened, we'll have to start over from scratch... so please help us edit it down! --Kanamekun 00:55, September 28, 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Lois' fights
There's a great list of her fights under Abilities, but it's a bit long... any objections to moving to a new article? --Kanamekun 03:30, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
