[edit] Name of Martian Manhunter article
- BatteryB7 had a great point about Martian Manhunter: "[W]hy [is] the name of Martian Manhunter ... John Jones??? John is just a Comic book name. Nobody has ever call [him] John in Smallville!" I did some digging, and it's a fair point - so far, it hasn't seemed like he's ever called by his full Earth name in any episode I've reviewed so far.
- But I was surprised by one tidbit: in the episode Labyrinth (the second episode where MM appears), there's a mention of the name John: "Lana begs Clark to agree to Dr. Hudson's treatments so they can be together, but when a fellow patient named John, A.K.A Martian Manhunter (guest star Phil Morris), tells him the good doctor is actually a phantom and he needs to kill him in order to return to reality, Clark must make the toughest decision of his life." [1].
- I'll have to rewatch all the MM episodes in order to get a final ruling... at this point, I'd be inclined to have the article named as "Martian Manhunter" unless we can find an episode where his full Earth name is used. But of course, we probably shouldn't take any action until all the episodes have been reviewed... --Kanamekun 02:55, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- The page was renamed John Jones because the other heroes on the wiki are listed under their real names. However, unlike them, he has not been shown to have an Earth persona, so if he is never called John Jones on the show, it should be changed back to MM. Wiki conventions take a backseat to accurately reporting the source material. Marikology 04:06, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Intergalactic law enforcement
Haha Marikology, awesome! I also love that you put him in the law enforcement category... --Kanamekun 00:29, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well someone deleted it before, claiming his role for Jor-El was more ambiguous, like a right-hand man, but the template is distorted without that value, and I can't think of any other way to describe his job: he captures and puts criminals away= law enforcement! [edit] Heat, but no vision
Was he ever actually shown using heat vision? I know there was a scene with a burn-like wound on someone, but it was never shown how it had occurred. --Noclevername 01:36, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] How about a little fire, scarecrow?
The Martian Manhunter fears fire;
Well, he feared fire in Clark's hallucination. Has it been shown that he does so in the flesh? --Noclevername 05:08, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Timing
I didn't see any evidence in J&D that he knew Swann "since before 1987"; Is there any specific reference to the date they met? --Noclevername 00:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] When's he coming back?
- So I was just wondering, when John Jones would be coming back. Every time he's on the set, he's like, so cool and amazing. I especially like the scenes when he flies away, leaving the red streak of light behind. And I'm hoping we see him again on Season 8. It'd be bad and unfair if we didn't see him on the series' last season at least. I look forward into meeting him again and also having a more frequent "recurring character" appearence in the series, rather than a "guest appearence" in few episodes. Maybe he might show his "true form" to others and show more of his abilities and personal history in the series. I can't wait for Season 8 to come out!!! --Delta353c 23:12, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] The yellow sun's impact on the Martian Manhunter
Martian Manunter flew Clark into the sun in order to restore his powers but then the Martian was stripped of his own powers. How the hell did he manage to fly them back to Earth without having his Martian powers? Any insights?
--Dva 23:28, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- I guess maybe there was a time lag before his powers went away? I agree, it's not the strongest explanation for what happened! --Kanamekun 15:42, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- Oooh, what about this: maybe *Clark* flew them both back. After all, his powers were restored by the sun? --Kanamekun 21:40, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, very interesting idea, but I thought that Clark didn't regain consciousness until he was on the farm.(?) But I could be wrong.....
- However, it would be great to see Clark flying in Season 8 :-) --Dva 19:48, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Maybe his powers lasted long enough until they arrived back on Earth.
- Wait a minute, since they were outer space doesnt that means Martian Manhunter would have healed due to his healing factor which is activated outrspace.--NatDuv 00:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] The or no The?
Do we refer to him as "The" Martian Manhunter or just Martian Manhunter? I had this problem with Green Arrow too, until I figured since Lois says, "You're Green Arrow" in Hydro then there shouldn't be a "the", but with him, we haven't really heard him call him MM to his face. Could we use a comics precident, to base something on, until the show gives us some baseline? Marikology 05:05, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think the show goes out of its way to avoid using his name! It's only been used twice, and as more of a descriptor then as an actual name (I added both usages to the Quotes section). For now, I try to avoid using his name too :-). I'm hopefully that eventually, they'll give us a clear usage of "John Jones" along with a clear spelling of it! --Kanamekun 15:46, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Char pic
Okay, now i'm sick of Nicholsy's sucky picture, does anyone have a better picture? Elbutler 16:19, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I agree the picture could be nicer! Feel free to replace it with another one. One thing though - let's be nice to each other :-). --Kanamekun 16:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] John Jones
Finally, MM has been called "John Jones" (in a non deleted scene) and been shown to have an Earth persona to boot! Given that he's only been called "Martian Manhunter" twice (and more as a description than as a name)... should we rename the article John Jones, and give his code name as "Martian Manhunter"? --Kanamekun 13:49, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes might as well since it was agreed before on the talk page.Nicholsy 02:11, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- Marikology added some extra thoughts on this in the Policies page... sounds like she would prefer to keep it on the MM page. --Kanamekun 02:14, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am moving this page back, pending a further discussion including Marikology's latest thoughts. --Kanamekun 02:16, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- I feel like it should stay Martian Manhunter because that was what he was originally known as, and John Jones is clearly an alias he picked up after he was forced to stay on earth and develop an Earth persona. The situation is basically the same as the other superheroes, who created their hero personas after living as their real selves, it's just that John Jones is the persona. I liken it to Lana Lang's page remaining Lana Lang even though, onscreen, she took Lex's last name. Marikology 05:22, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Appearances
I would like to open a discussion about Martian's appearance. I think that only real appearance shoud be put there, not mentions. What's the point of those "mentions" anyway? Tell me... BatteryB7 17:54, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- If we didn't have those in there and marked as a mention, others would add them as real appearances... and then it becomes a revert war! This way, they're in there as a mention and so there is peace and harmony in the editing universe? Heh... at least, that's the hope! --Kanamekun 18:30, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
