[edit] Episode Summaries
I would like to see episode summaries on the season pages if there is no objection. I don't know if it's possible to write code that would pull the summaries from the individual episode pages, but I'm very interested in writing the summaries myself. I noticed that those pages contain both summaries and recaps. Personally, I prefer reading summaries to recaps, the recaps seem to be scene by scene (sometimes shot by shot), while the summaries contain details but focus on the story arc. My first rule of thumb I think I'll set for myself is to limit each summary to 50 words, but I reserve the right to adjust that as I get started. Samantha's Mom 05:04, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi! Welcome to the wiki! The pages for Season 3 and Season 4 have summaries for the episodes, and it would be FAN-tastic of someone made similar tables for the other ones. Season 3 was already there when I got here, but I did the Season 4 one by copy-pasting the entire code for the Season 3 table into word pad, and just pasting over or retyping S4 data. This wiki is definitely a work in progress, so feel free to take on any task to make it better. Marikology 14:32, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome. I'm happy to be here. The table looks totally cool. I think I'll start by just adding some text to this page. I've only seen a few episodes of Smallville, but my sister is crazy about it, so I borrowed the DVDs from the library. I'm planning to watch one episode per day. Well see how it goes. -- Samantha's Mom 03:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New Table
Okay, so I changed my mind and added a table. I used the exact same tables, which appear for Season 2 and Season 3. My new rule of thumb for summaries is less than 100 words. Before I finish, I hope to get it trimmed down and set in stone. They look a lont better on the page when they are all the same length. I included links to almost all the directors and writers even if they don't have pages on this wikia. Most of the links lead to either to Wikipedia (first choice) or the Internet Movie Database (IMDB). I wonder if there is a policy page regarding the relationship between the Smallville Wiki and Wikipedia. I found this place from there, when I read a discussion page that included criticism of a plan to include a page for every episode. I agree that a summary of every single episode is not the sort of thing one would expect to find in an encyclopedia which is why I think this site is such a good idea, but it looks like they are doing pages for every episode anyway, and I just wonder about the value of duplicating efforts and all that.-Samantha's Mom 20:39, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I do know that the sites are owned by the same company, but Wikipedia is designed to be a professional, valid resource, while Wikia/Wikicities is more of a "home movies" approach about "less important" topics. As far as ep pages, I read that discussion, and I agree that Wikipedia is too broad for individual episode pages. Also, most of the information on our episode pages probably violates many wikipedia codes, with Original Research and unreferenced citations. Generally, I've found that Wikia is a lot less strict about those policies. I approached the main proponent, and suggested he come over here and work on the epi pages, but he was determined to move forward. However, he seems to have lost interest; there are only pages up to Extinction, which was created in October, and the ones that are there are unfinished or erroneous. Also on Wikipedia, the links to episodes on the Season pages direct here, not to Wikipedia, so I'd wager individual ep pages will eventually be deleted there.
