Observation[]

  • No attempt is made to reconcile the fact that Lana actually killed Buffy Summers. And yeah, the explain the vampire-like behavior as a strain of rabies, but what was making them able to throw themselves off the balcony and not die? Marikology 00:25, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I wonder if this episode wasn't a slight tribute to George Lucas. It had Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia)

I think there should be a section in the notes, about Clark mentioning him liking his Zorro cape and not the mask, an obvious nod to his future outfit.

Also, how Chloe says that the Daily Planet will have future superheroes, or somethin to that effect. Up, up and away.

Name that Song?[]

What was the name of the song playing while Lana was turned into a krypto-vampire?

Anyone?

Anyone at all? I'd love to know it. I've checked all of the listed songs and none of them seem to match.

Are the Tri Psi girls gay?[]

There are allusions throughout the episode that the Tri Psi girls are gay. When Buffy "bit" Lana, it looks more like they were kissing. And later in the episode they say that one can only change into a vampire when they make the victim "drink" their blood. I found in Buffy's journal a sign with "Kissing Boys" with a "no" sign over it. Could it be possible? And yes, this was the worst episode ever, so maybe it's nothing

A few things[]

Having just watched it, no, this is not a great episode, and the vampire angle is idiotic, but then this is often an idiotic show. I don't see why this episode should be singled out when the whole first season is people getting meteor powers in ways that poetically apply to their personalities or circumstances.

As to the complaints about implausibility - specifically the part about killing Buffy Summers, and falling down the stairs and not dying, etc - I think they effectively explain this away by having Lex say that, while there's nothing supernatural about it, the people with the disease exhibit all of what we think of as the classic abilities/weakness (except for crosses, evidently) of vampires. Like I say, since it's a meteor freak thing, it's no worse than many of the others - they're all about equally dumb.

I'd also say this episode has great control of its intended tone. It's competently made and fun and goofy in the way it was intended to be. The Chloe part of it is good, the vampire stuff is intentionally campy, and the Brainiac stuff is good.

Last thing; another "plot hole" pointed out on the main page is that Chloe was dictating the story, but couldn't have known about certain scenes featuring Fine and Lex, or just Fine. But since those scenes play no role in the vampire story at all, it would be assumed by a competent viewer that we weren't meant to think Chloe had written them into her story. Imagine reading her newspaper story and in the middle of it there's a scene in Lex Luthor's mansion where two random men have an argument about things that have nothing to do with anything.
