The relationship between Tess Mercer and Oliver Queen is one of the oldest relationships in Smallville but has only been represented during Season 8.

When Oliver's yacht sailed into rocks, Oliver washed up on a nearby deserted island and explored it for two years. After discovering a group of drug runners, he pricked his hand on a toxic flower and collapsed, waking up hours later in a tent surrounded by armed men with Tess Mercer examining him. She told him the flower was deadly and that he had only 12 hours left to live after the poison entered his system. She used leeches to suck the poison out of his body and admitted that she and her friend Megan had been kidnapped.

One of the kidnappers tells Oliver that he knows Oliver's identity, announces a plan to ransom Oliver, shoots Megan dead and almost shoots Tess, but Oliver jumped in front of her and Marcos decided that she will live. Oliver tried to console Tess over the death of her friend. Later, Oliver staged an escape out of the island when the drug runners were leaving by knocking out one of them and by poisoning Marcos with the toxin. Oliver and Tess then left the island by using the drug-runner's boat and returned to his home Star City.

They start a relationship that ended when Oliver left Tess after she caught him with a waitress. ^[1] He never said goodbye to Tess and she never forgot that.

They met again after Oliver Queen was poisoned by Marcos at a rain forest fundraiser, who is seeking revenge on Tess and Oliver for what they did to him on the island. After Marcos was stopped, Oliver meets Tess at the Luthor Mansion where she revealed that she was just Oliver Queen's first save, and he replies that she was much more than that. He says to her that he´s wonder how she had arrived and changed from her days studying jelly fish. Oliver says that he knows how ruthless she can be and that he found out this a long time ago. Tess then confronts him by saying that he shouldn't just expect her to sit around after what he did to her and that everything that she has done is for herself. Then it is revealed that Oliver had disappeared a long time ago and didn't says goodbye to Tess. In gratitude for saving her from Marcos again, Tess gives Oliver research that reveals that Lionel was the one who killed his parents. Considering that Tess was working for Lex Luthor at the time, and both of them held a grudge against Oliver for different reasons, the information could have been fake.

Later, Oliver sends her a dress, a few days later, and an invitation to go to dinner with him, but Maxima later steals the dress and takes the invitation. After this, Oliver visits her at her office and confronts her about how she doesn´t return his calls but manages to have time to buy the Star City Towers, and he then invites her to dinner. When he arrives at the Luthor Mansion, Tess battles him in hand to hand combat, and reveals that she is still angry because Oliver left her, and tells him that he still can't take anything seriously even their relationship.

He says that she knows how much she meant to him, and then Tess replies that she doesn´t want an apology but an explanation. She then demands he tells her what kept him so afraid and he replies that it was her. The two passionately kiss and spend the night together. The next day, Oliver wants to give her a present, however Tess turns him down by saying she had an itch and he scratched it.

When Chloe reveals that she needs Ollie to steal a generator from Tess, he eagerly agrees to help and infiltrate the Luthor Mansion as the Green Arrow. He is confroted by Tess who reveals that she really doesn´t know anything about Oliver's secret identity and is then easily subdued with a tranquilizer dart.

After Tess discovers that Lex never trusted her, she calls Oliver to discuss a merger over dinner, with her saying that he can interpret it anyway he wants. Days later, they become partners after the successful merger between LuthorCorp and Queen Industries. Their relationship then becomes more closer to a business one rather than a romantic one. However, Oliver later reveals to Clark that he spent $10 billion in the merger and that he only accepted it because he has a crush on Tess.^[2]

Oliver tries to heat things up again when Clark wants him to steal black kryptonite from Tess and he then goes to visit her with the excuse of celebrating the reopening of a geothermal power station. After she turns him down, Oliver then goes as far as to lie naked in her bed. However, they are then interrupted by the Injustice League as they cause an explosion that knocks Oliver unconscious and results in Tess being taken captive. However, Oliver comes to her rescue as Green Arrow.

As Oliver wasn't pulling his wieght with the business, Tess tracked Oliver down to Mexico where she found him in the middle of a fight with two men. Armed with a machine gun and attitude, Tess forced the thugs away and dealt with a drunken Oliver. Tess reminded her that they were in business together and his decisions were hurting her too. She tried to offer a comforting hand. Oliver returned to Metropolis with Tess for a shareholders conference at the Ace of Clubs as a way to pay back all the favors she had done for him.

Tess:After what you did to me, did you really expect me to just sit around and eat ice cream?

Oliver: No. You'd rather work for my greatest enemy, and then, just when I think the knife can't twist any farther, you take over his entire company.

Tess: Oh, so that's what you do when you're not writing checks and grinning for the cameras. You sit around pondering ways that I've dedicated my life to your downfall. I'm sorry to break it to you, Oliver, but everything I did, I did for me.

Oliver: Well, then I guess our past is behind us.

Tess: It has been since the day that you said goodbye. Oh, wait. You never actually did, did you?

Oliver:Is that why you called me here?. Because it's on the tip of my tongue. Season Eight, Toxic
