(' Power)'
While Clark as saved Lana's life numerous times over the years, a few stand out as truly defining moments in Lana's life. Without Clark intervening in these unique events, Lana would never have been able to fulfil her destiny as a superheroine. A few are explored below:
Lana was on her way back into town after she dropped Whitney off at the bus station, unaware that three tornado's was headed her way. However, also when Clark heard that three tornadoe's were heading to Smallville, he became worried for Lana's safety. Making his priorities clear, he abandoned Chloe and super-sped to save Lana, as a tornado sucked her truck up. Lana's truck was lifted into the funnel of the storm and Clark rushed into the storm and saved her. Despite Clark's attempts to maintain his secret, Lana suspected that Clark was the reason she was still alive, particularly when she had vivid memories of Clark's face as she was pulled into a tornado. Lana directly questioned Clark about this, but he brushed it off. Unconvinced, Lana later tried to reassure Clark that she would not be bothered if he was different.
While Clark always there to protect Lana, she also played a big part in protecting herself and thus her destiny. Lana was not willing to leave her fate in the hands of others, so she took action to preserve her own future. She decided to learned how to protect and defend herself by taking combat lessons with Lex. Over the years she has evolved from a soft and naive girl to a much stronger woman. One of the most extraodinary saves was when Clark receives a phone call from the future in which Adam Knight kills Lana. A worried Clark, a distress Lana and a anxious Chloe team up to figure out, where the call came from. When they piece together the clues, they determine that Lana's phone call was actually from the future. Clark worked tirelessly through the day to stop the event leading up to Lana's death in the hopes that would change the future. However, when he was unsuccessful from prevent these events from happening, he went to the teen crisis center to wait for Lana's call. There is an electrical short and meteor rocks nearby, possibly the reason for the time-warp. Clark lifts the power pole high enough to pull the lines out of the puddle with the meteor rocks. Then he is able to ask Lana where she is and he superspeeds to her location just in time to take the bullet for her, saving her life.
When Clark confessed his secret to Lana and asked her to marry him. She was shocked and reserved at responding to his proposal at first, however she accepted Clark for who he was and agreed to marry him. Clark then realized that he could trust Lana to keep his secret, but soon realized that it was dangerous for her, as Lex accidentally caused a fatal car accident that killed her. Clark realizes that Lana's life is the price that Jor-El promised to collect when he resurrected Clark. He goes to the Fortress of Solitude and pleads with him to fix it. Jor-El gives Clark a crystal that will reset the day back to the beginning. After the day was reset, Clark reconsidered his decision to tell Lana his secret to keep her safe.
A crazed Fan thought that Clark would finally embrace is destiny if the woman he loved was killed, so he tried to kill Lana by throwing her off a roof, but Clark arrived just in time to save her. Clark even had to save Lana from herself, when during a romantic afternoon with Clark, Lana accidentally received Clark's powers when she was struck by lightning while she was near a piece of kryptonite. Lana wasn't mentally ready to handle such great power and she became corrupted by them, and used them in a violent and vengeful way. Clark was able to de-power Lana before she destroyed herself, in effect once again preserving her destiny.
"I want to be Invincible" - Lana to Carter (Power)
"I'm not training you, to be like someone else. I'm training you to be Lana Lang. Raise from the ashes of your previous life, stronger, more poweful, fearless. It's time to raise" - Lana to Carter (Power)
"Well, before you fly off to change the world, I've got something for you. Take this so you'll always remember, as you rise higher and higher, never look down" - Carter to Lana (Power)
After Lana woke from the coma she was in because of Brainiac, she was then immediately kidnapped by Tess Mercer on Lex's orders. Shortly afterward, Lana overpowerd her kidnappers and escaped. However, she was tired of the constant attacks and her life being endangered by criminals and supervillains, so she decided to leave Smallville and on go a training quest, to prepare herself both mentally and physically to wear the Prometheus suit and stop Lex from gaining it's powers.
Her journey took her to Edge city. Where she found Carter Bowfry a former military teacher, whom she knew could teach her the specialised skills that she needed. Even though Carter was impressed that Lana was able to track him down, he was reluntant to help her, even when she offered to pay him whatever he wanted because money meant nothing to her, he told her that he doesn't need her money and even tried to deny who he was, telling her that he was just a retired teacher living off his pension. But Lana had done her homework and told him that she knew he that was a military teacher, who trained soldiers and Green Berets to ignore pain and she wanted him to teach everything he knew. Carter was both surprised and impressed that Lana was able to find out who he really was, but he was still hesitant because he thought that Lana wouldn't be able to handle the training. Carter finally conceded when she assured him that she is a lot tougher than she looks and that by helping her he'll also be helping the world.
Carter put Lana through a grueling training regiment and at first she couldn't handle it, which lead Carter to provoke and challenge her, which then motive Lana into succeeding. Her training regiment also included, learning to endure and survive extremely cold temperatures and withstanding the pain of fire. He also taught her to let go of Clark and not put him on a pedestal anymore. She eventually let go of Clark and accepted that she doesn't need to be like him, she just have to be herself and always do what she think is right, even when Clark doesn't agree. He trained her for 7 months in which she learned to ignore pain which combinded with her combat skills made her a more formidable human.
Although Lana was grateful for everything Carter had taught, for her to finally complete her transformation she needed powers. Powers she will need to do her job more effectively and fight superpowered villains. Carter advice her that sometimes power isn't the answer, but when he saw how determine she was and how much she wanted to help the world, he conceded and decided to join her. He also gave Lana a phoenix medallion to reminded her that as she rise higher and higher to never look down.
The Power Suit
Lana then returned to Metropolis and was researching Project Ares, when she found the information an the Project Dr Edward Groll was working an. She then contacted Dr Groll, who was scientific expert who specialises in Nanotechnology and alien technology and congratulated him on creating the Promtheus suit, which is a specialized suit that grants the wearer extraordinary superpowers. At first Dr Groll denied any knowledge of the Suit, but once again Lana overcome that hurdle by revealing to Dr Groll all the information that she had uncovered, at first he was stunned, but he then conceded that Lana was right. Lana then convines Dr Groll to give the Suit to her instead of Lex, telling him that Lex would corrupt's it's power but if her gave it to her she would use it to protect the world. Dr Groll agreeded with Lana and the two decided to move the Project to a safe location and that Lana would become the wearer of the suit instead. The precedure was carried out shortly-after Chloe's wedding, between late 2008 an early 2009.
The precedure include's having Lana's skin moderately scarred (burnt) so that the skin becomes damaged and nanites were grafted by lasers into her skin, which had also been treated and altered by alien DNA. Dr Groll successfully grafted a layer of nanites onto Lana's entire body, granting Lana superpowers of her own. Lana called for Clark to meet her at the rooftop of the Daily Planet and then explained to Clark that now he no longer had to worry about her safety, because nothing can hurt her anymore and that she wanted to devote her powers to working side-by-side with Clark in Metropolis, to save people with him. However if he didn't, she would understand. Clark told Lana that it's what he always wanted and then they kissed very passionately as the sun rose over the horizon and the two reignited their romance.
A Legendary Destiny
"Ever since I was little, I've read stories about you, about the hardships you overcome and the incredible things you will go on to do. You are remembered for a lot more than just your relationship with Clark, you have a destiny all your own." - Imra Ardeen to Lana Lang, Legion.
Lana had always been sensitive to the plight of others and always wanted to help people whenever she could, even from an early age. When she was in high school, she participated in various charity including school bake sales and personally organized a school blood drive. In the summer of 2001, she worked as an assistant to the elders at the Smallville Retirement Center and worked at a Teen Crisis Hot-line for students that needed emotional support. She was destined to lead an extraordinary life and would eventually fulfill her mother's prophecy by discovering and fulfilling her own destiny.
As a normal human, she had protected and saved the lives of her friends many times, including Clark, his adoptive and biological mothers, and his cousin Kara, and helped save the world when Chloe taken over by Brainiac and tried to enslave mankind.
Lana's first save as a Superheroine was Dr. Groll, whom Tess tried to kill when he stopped her from destroying Prometheus. The next morning, she then visited Tess and tried to save her from destroying herself with her quest for revenge. Her final and most important act of heroism in Metropolis was when she chose to defuse a kryptonite bomb on the roof of the Daily Planet that was intended to destroy Metropolis. Later that night, Lana talked Clark out of killing Lex, because that would destroy him and keep him from ever fulfilling his destiny.
Due to the fact that Lana could not be near Clark without hurting him after defusing the bomb, she knew if she stayed in town, Clark would have devoted his entire time looking for a cure so that they could be together and they'd both emotionally suffer the pain of not being together.
Lana is brave and has the strength of character to make difficult decisions; she doesn't back down from doing what is right, and that was why even amidst Clark's pleas and protests, she stood firm and she left Smallville to use her gifts to continue to save lives and help the world.
